    Alaska

Completed first trip to Alaska, absolutely fabulous time.
Luckily no breakdowns; 9500 miles, 73 nites, 12.1 mpg.
    For those looking to go:
Using Canadian Provincial Parks and several roadside overnights, average nightly cost was $26.
    Per mile costs= $.28 fuel; parks $.22; food $.23
4 ferry rides added $786, saved a little fuel (Dawson City, Haines, Vancouver Island on & off)
Met a lot of great people, ran into them several more times as we moved north.
Wildlife, fished, swam with the salmon, landed on a glacier.
Only thing we missed was Northern Lights, next time will leave a little later in the year.
Holler if you have any questions.

Sounds like a great trip. That's one heck of an adventure with an RV. I drove the Alaska Highway in November of 2003 when we moved up to Anchorage for work (in an Xterra with my father and all of my wife's house-plants). We had a great time.

(Caution: Pity Party Ahead) Dang that sounds like a good time! I sat in a freezing cold server room all day (with no windows).

Oh--and thanks for the details on the costs.

Thanks, it was awesome. If it’s not on your bucket list, you need a new bucket.

We just did a 60 day Canada/Alaska trip. 10,000 miles. Only problem was a broken leaf spring hanger. Thankfully we were near Whitehorse, YT (big city) and it was mid-day. Got to a welding shop to fix us up and send us on our way.

Some of those roads up there are real rocky.

You'll love it Jim, hardest part is figuring out what needs to be deleted/bypassed cause you just can't see it all in one trip.

Livinthelife-Which road was the worst for you?
Top of the world highway, Tok cutoff between Tok and Glenallen, or highway 40 north of Grand Cache?
Highway 1 around Swift River was pretty bad too.
