wiring rear lights on 2017 27rl

there are three wires on the rear lights on 2017 27rl 5th wheel

Black-- I think this is ground

    White ?

    Green ?

I want to hook up an observation camera and splice in at this location. Does anyone know what the Black, Green, and white wire power. I want to power a 12 v camera when the truck and trailer running lights are on.

    Thanks

sclarson - The three wires are ground, running lights and combination brake/turn signal. There is a good chance that the white is the ground. This is easy to check with an ohm meter or by looking at which wire goes to the bulb socket. When you turn on the truck parking lights, one of the other wires will be powered. This is the one you want for power to your camera. The other wire will be powered when the brake pedal is applied and will flash when the turn signal is engaged.

OK then what would one do if one wishes to add a directional arrow turn signal to the existing rear lights? I would like to get something like this and mount it above the existing rear lights. Can I just run an extension wire from the existing wires? Will the current draw (assuming they're LED's) be an issue?

The problem with this plan is that your new turn signal will also come on with the brake lights. With a “two wire” system, the truck powers the same circuit with steady power for braking and pulsed power for turn signal. There are two-to-three wire adapters to separate the brake signal from the turn signal, but all brake lights must be changed to three wire with separate circuits for brake and turn signal for this to work.
