Is the 310GK short box friendly?

Is the 310GK short box friendly?

I have a Silverado 3500SD with a 6 3/4 box. I have read that some people rarely use their manual sliders. For piece of mind I am thinking of purchasing an auto slide but they come at a higher price and also are heavy and therefore chew into my payload.

Is auto slider over kill for the 310GK?
    Will a manual slider do?
How close does the 310gk come to the cab of a short box (6 3/4 foot) truck?

I would greatly appreciate guidance on this, particularly those who pull a 310gk with a 6 3/4 box.
    Thank you, Rusty127

You may never need it, you might need it.

I have a Chevy Silverado 3500 diesel, SRW, with the 6 1/2 ft box. The 310GK works great with this truck. I have a manual slider hitch, but I have never used the slider function on the hitch; it is always locked in the “towing”position and I have never had any issues with it. I’m pretty sure I’ve had the 310GK turned to 90 degrees behind the truck without contacting the crew cab of my truck. I’ve never measured that distance.
    Cheers,

I have a 375res with a similar front cap as your 310gk. They are both 101" wide body 5th wheel trailers. I had a manual slider and about the first time you think you have plenty of room and don't use it, the trailer will come up and bite you.

It's kinda like closing the gate after the horse got out but after I ended up putting a dent in the corner of the cab of my short box PU I put a Reese Sidewinder pin box on my trailer. I have pulled the trailer a little over 3K miles with the Sidewinder and it works perfect. The thing I like about it over a auto slider is I can still pull any 5th wheel that has a conventional pin box and it doesn't add as much weight to the truck. I guess the simple answer to your question is "unless you do something....yes...". It can and will hit. It's just a matter of time.

My 310 with Demo Hijacker autoslide DID HIT THE CAB (have marks on truck & trailer to prove it) when at 90 degrees. I probably had it the hitch mounted too far forward (about 6” ahead of rear axle). So now I moved it back about 3” (the most I can).

Will it hit now? I haven’t tested it yet.

    I've got a 2018 Solitude 310GK, pull it with a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 1-ton (short bed), B&W non-slider 18000# Companion hitch.

Hitch was set up for my 2012 Keystone Laredo -- hitch receiver arms max forward, leaving the king-pin centered just forward of the truck axle.

Never had a problem with the narrower Laredo. With the Solitude, I scraped the trailer cap against the back of the Ram cab trying to complete the 90 degree backup turn into my driveway at home.

So the B&W hitch receiver arms are adjustable. Three positions. For the Laredo, I had them in the max forward position. With the Solitude, I've now moved the arms to the max aft position. That gives me an additional 4" of turning radius. Helped tremendously -- but now, the king-pin sits just aft of the axle and the truck rides a tad nose-high, even though the Solitude is still sitting level.

If I keep the truck (having dreams I can't control about a dually), I'll either add bump-stops or go to a slider. Probably manual slider if that keeps the weight down. I'm concerned about weight because of the 500# of battery-bank I installed in the front storage compartment.

I have a Solitude 310GK and pull it with an 2016 GMC short bed (Sierra/Denali) one ton truck using the Andersen Ultimate. Pulls and turns like a breeze. I have the adaptor on the pin turned with the receiving hole for the gooseneck on the Ultimte to the back...receiving hold closer to the trailer, not the cab. I highly recommend this setup.

Curious, how far do you get on angles when you back up?
