Will be ordering a Solitude 310GK in the spring of 2020 to retire and go full time. Thanks for any input.
Old thread, but may have applicable info that's helpful: https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...F-350-vs-F-450

    Here's another one: https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...94M-Toy-Hauler

Type in "F-450" in the white rectangular box (near top right) and click the small magnifying glass icon. There's plenty of threads to read.

However I just swung by the dealer today and he has a truck that's "fairly close" to what I have spec'd except for the 4:10 gears. I wanted the 3:55. I'm in no rush to purchase now so I'm debating picking up this "maybe close enough" truck or just ordering exactly what I want.

Anyone else want to chime in on the 3:55 vs 4:10 discussion? Thanks!
    I have the 3:55 in a 2017 dually. Pulls the 379FLS effortlessly.

When I bought my 2018 F-350 the dealer had no DRW's. They looked around the area and found some close and some not so close. They finally looked out of state and found the 3.55's I wanted with my 4th color choice (black on black). It was worth it to get the 3.55 instead of the 4.10. If you wait a few months for the 2020's to come out you can get the new super duty 10 speed trany and 3rd gen 6.7

Airrace, Thanks for the information. Yes, we will wait until the 2020’s can be ordered and get the tow vehicle we want. Retirement is about 17 months away, so no real rush. Will continue to narrow down options, colors, etc.

Regarding 5th wheel, looks like the Solitude 310GK is the unit of choice. Now, to decide “needed” options, ie — heat pump addition, gen prep, dual pane windows, King vs. Queen, slide awnings. Anything else?

Congrats on retirement next year. We have been enjoying having everyday a Saturday! I did get the puck system (both 5th wheel and goose neck) with this truck. There are a lot of ways to customize the hitch system to your liking. If you buy big parts from Ford, go to ford parts dot com and search around as some dealers will sell some items up to a few hundred dollars less if ordered online. Have enjoyed the 310GK also. A good trailer so far. Also about trucks ordered from the Midwest. They are made for cold weather so come standard with block heater, supplemental cab heater (electric) and dual alternators.

Current TV is second 350 I've had with 4.10s......first used to haul biga** boat on a triple axle trailer.....and now our 376th....while I appreciate the potential difference in fuel savings with 3.55s....living in the west, their is a lot to be said for cruise control over the Grapevine, or the Baker grade on 15, or all the hills on 40 eastbound with our 20,000lb Momentum

I love the tight turning radius (there used to be a option for the 350, but not sure if it's still available) and the 19.5" tires are G rated and very durable, replacement selection is limited though :-) As for the gears, the only option for the 450 is the 4.30 and I get 15mpg at 55/80 mph empty or 55 mph towing the 20k trailer.

If you go F350 be sure to get the adaptive steering, it's standard on the higher end ones. It makes a big difference in low speed turning maneuvers, less turning of the steering wheel and more turning of the wheels. The biggest difference I noticed is how much easier the 350 steers versus my old '17 F250, it steered like a bus at low speeds. The 350 is much easier to steer and requires less effort.
