New Members from Alabama!

Hello,

Jeff and Susan here from Madison, AL. We are soon to be retired NASA engineers who have been camping since 1996 in a Coleman Utah pop-up camper. We'd always talked about getting a Class A diesel motorhome but decided instead to go with a GD 303RLS 5th wheel. Susan loves the floor plan. Currently, we are shopping for our tow vehicle. Initially I was thinking we could get by with a 3/4 ton truck but the numbers would be borderline for the 303RLS so we're looking at a 1 ton - F-350 SRW with 6.7L Diesel.

Anyway, this looks like a great forum with lots of wonderful contributors and we look forward to becoming part of the group.

Welcome to the forum. I'm an hour west of you. The Tennessee River Valley has so many great campgrounds that you don't have to go far. Alabama State Parks are close too with Joe Wheeler and Guntersville less than an hour from you.

We use our Reflection fifth wheel as our home in the NE Georgia Mountains.

If you're looking for a F350 SWR, you might do best to order one as they're relatively rare. Long Lewis in Muscle Shoals is #1 rated in customer satisfaction in the U.S. and has no doc. fees. If you're looking for comparisons, AkinsFord.com in Winder, GA has more PowerStrokes on hand than in most states, and that's where my F250 came from.

Thanks Bamaman. We love camping at Monte Sano State Park here in north Alabama - it's a 15 minute drive from home. Nice campground, wonderful hiking - we'll be camping up there next weekend in fact.

On the dealerships, appreciate that too. I have created one on the Ford site and will make sure Long Lewis gives me a bid.

Welcome to the forum from another retired engineer. I spent 30 years in the aerospace/defense world and spent a lot of time in Huntsville. We built a state of the art missile assembly factory on the arsenal about 10 years ago. There are quite a few engineers, mechanics, and related folks on the forum, so the discussions can get pretty technical from time to time.

We just purchased a 2019 GD 303RLS in September and we pull it with our new 2500 GMC Duramax. We don’t even know we are towing it. We installed the Anderson hitch and love it!

Welcome aboard! This is a great forum with some fantastic folks. Skipping the 3/4 ton for the the F-350 is an excellent choice! Same ride quality, higher payload, room to grow if you decide to get a larger RV some day (like we did).
