Off to The Villages at Turning Stone

We are just about to repack for M-F here.
Well, the CG map is a pdf file, don’t know how to fetch it yet.
Anyway, no, we are not gamblers although we have gone to bingo with friends once. Felt a little geriatric. Bruce has to go babysit a trade show in the convention center, which he loves to do (not). Will post pics and the scoop during the week.

The place is beautiful. We came here pre-season and rode our bikes all over. Picked out the site we wanted.

This place is really nice. Compared to other places VERY reasonably priced with all the amenities. They loaned us co-ax cables and we’re watching the news. We are about to free the bikes from the rack. Big head-smack! I just realized that my iPad has a camera. Duh.

We too have stayed there 2-3 times over the years. Fully agree that its a nice campground. Located between Syracuse and Utica, there are things to see and do. Of course this time of year in upstate NY, the foliage is beautiful. For a beautiful country ride drop down to RT.20 and head west towards Lafayette, the scenery is breathtaking. Hit up one of the U pick Apple orchards or wineries.

We like to ride up to Rome for some great Italian food. That’s one thing I miss about living there. Another pretty ride is up 46 to Boonville, West to West Leyden, 26 south back to Rome.

Was it the Savoy? We’d stop on the way home from 8th Lake. Back when the bears were at the dump, and you’d see them there, not in your campsite!

Ate at The Black Stallion last night, just up Rt. 5 from Vernon Downs. Haven’t been for over 10 years, still great!

Well I lived in Rome for about 13 years, but moved away in the mid to late 80s. I've been to the Savoy, its okay. My favorite was The Plaza, which has since closed. A couple of years ago we stayed at Turning Stone and visited friends that I worked with in Rome. We ate at Vigneto, which has moved in where the Plaza was a couple of doors down from the Savoy on E. Dominick St. It was good.

Now if you are looking for a pretty ride, head up to Rome, then take 46 north through the gorge to Boonville, then find the Moose River Road heading east -- it runs along the Moose River and comes out on route 12 near Minnehaha south of Thendara. I think that is the prettiest fall ride I've seen in all of New York.
