But he's simply pointing it wouldn't have been caught on the inspection as you noted. Doesn't matter who's fault it is, the inspection wouldn't have picked it up. As noted, the axles are already assembled.

I'm surprised these units made it to the dealer without failing.

Noticed from the provided link Forest River was also bit by the bearing issue.

Wonder how many other manufacturers beside FR and Gd are affected? It might be hard to source a new axle for the next several months if the vendor has to keep RV production lines stocked as well replacing damaged axles.

Dexter sent a letter to the NHTSA saying that up to 9,350 units are potentially affected. According the the letter, it's only the 4,400# axles, so I'm not sure why the Reflection travel trailers may be involved because I believe the smallest axle on those models is 5,200#.

Jim - thanks, for posting the accurate information. The inside bearing missing did not seem possible to get this far but a missing race does (and apparently has at thousands when considering the other manufactures affected as well noted in your other posts.) Still quite amazed by this but stuff does happen. The key will be to see what happens next. This is where GDRV has impressed over and over.

Who else thinks a few executives over at LCI are at the very least snickering over this.

If the bearing race were to be missing you would know it when you pulled off the lot. 1. It would be very visibly noticeable because the wheel would be cock-eyed. 2. You would hear it grinding.

It is possible you would hear it, but the drum would be somewhat supported by riding on the brake shoes. Another reason to insist the dealer pull the wheels and drums to verify all bearing parts and seals are properly installed.
