RV Pro 10/8/2018 Publication GDRV Recalls

Below in bold from RV Pro regarding most recent two GDRV recalls. Here is the RVPro link as well: https://rv-pro.com/news/nhtsa-recall...M2MDQ0OTU0MgS2

I suspect this will be added to the GDRV site soon. As of just now it has not been as noted in this link:https://www.granddesignrv.com/owner-support/recalls

"Grand Design RV is recalling certain 2019 Grand Design Reflection, Imagine and Transcend travel trailers. These axles may be missing inner bearings on the hubs, which can cause the bearing to burnout or cause the hub to overheat.

Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will replace the defective hubs with new hubs or replace the axles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Oct. 22. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design’s number for this recall is 910015.

Potential number of units affected: 997

Grand Design also is recalling certain 2019 Grand Design Reflection travel trailers, model 295RL. The outside 110-volt outlet was not correctly wired to a ground-fault (GFI) protected circuit.

Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will install a new correctly wired ground fault receptacle, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Oct. 8. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design’s number for this recall is 900014.

Potential number of units affected: 53"

Brian - it is 997 units.....53 was the number of 295RLs with outlet issues. This is pretty amazing.....youzzers ! I am curious to know why it happened, how determined, and the fix going forward.

Strange wording to say the least. The missing bearings may cause the bearing to overheat? How can it overheat if it's missing? I looked at the actual recall notice on the NHTSB and the title states "Missing Bearing Races". Here's a copy:

Ohhh, yep, I missed that. I wouldn't think the delivery drivers would get very far with a missing bearing!

So much for the 200 something final PDI check every GD unit supposedly goes through before leaving the factory. Almost 1000 units built and shipped before someone noticed a missing bearing and/or seal. Pretty sad indeed.

It is sad, but GD doesn't assemble the axles and I highly doubt they pull the hubs when they mount the wheels. This is really a QA issue at the axle manufacturer.

I know if my trailer was one of the recalled units, I wouldn't be keen on hooking it up and driving it to the dealership without a bearing race. I wonder if this one will focus on mobile repair at Dexter's expense?

Yep, it's always someone else's fault. I guess it's a good thing auto manufacturers haven't got the masses brainwashed when a component supplied by an outside vendor is defective. Just imagine ten's of thousands of car owners lined up outside the Takata headquarters demanding a new air bag.

Good point, that would be awful.
Also, imagine the auto industry if half the things happened to cars after delivery like they do on RVs.
