A few years ago, we had our GPS take us down a narrow 1-1/2 lane road. All was good until we came up to a 9ft high underpass. Just on the other side of the underpass was our destination. To make matters worse, we had a line of cars behind us and it would have been about 1/2 a mile to back up. I ended up using someones driveway to turn around. The driveway was only long enough for the trailer and not the truck. I had to drive forward and backwards about 50 times to get the truck turned in the other direction, then make all the other cars move off the side of the road so we could get by.

Was in Bend, OR a few years ago out east of town. Garmin said turn left and TomTom said turn right. Lucky there was a nice turn around at the end of the dirt road after turning right to get the truck and 35' fiver turned around. Main reason I have sound turned off. Like most of you I use GPS as another tool along with paper maps

I use google maps, I setup the route before hand and either turn off traffic or don't bother to listen to suggestions. Street view is nice to take a a look at the surface streets if we aren't familar with the area. We also have a truck atlas app that routes us so between the two haven't had any issues. I'm super anal though about our routes though because of how long we are.

We use Google Map directions but print out routes before we leave home. You can drag points on Google Maps to keep you on main roads otherwise it will lead you the shortest distance which pulling camper is not always good, but much better than Garmin. I had rather drive a few extra miles than be on some of roads Google directions have put us on after all it is setup for car which in all cases we found would be OK just not towing camper.

I just had the same "learning experience" using iMaps on a recent trip in Oregon. Heading south on I5 to a spot on Hwy 138 near Glide. Map had me get off the freeway and take N Bank Road. So I followed directions 😩. 19 miles of narrow winding road with little to no shoulder! Had I looked at the route I would have seen that the better way was to travel down I5 a few miles to the 4 lane Hwy 138. Lesson learned.

I know that road well. It's a great Motorcycle road. Like a roller coaster. Up and down round and round. At least it's wide enough and not much traffic.

Where are you headed? Crater Lake? The north entrance is not open yet. KEN

    Ya
There's no shoulder and after the no shoulder it goes down pretty fast in places.

Do you need any navigational help? KEN

With a 41' 5er in tow, I need to be certain of my route before I get there. Learning fast! I will look into some of the apps mentioned in this thread.
