    Water Softerner and Filter Install

I recently installed a 16,000 grain On The Go Double Standard Water softner and Camco RV water filter in our Reflection 311BHS.

I chose camco inline water filter from Walmart because it’s readily available and has water hose connections.

    Materials: local Home Depot

    1ea 4ft x4ft 3/4” pressure treated plywood
1ea Kilz complete oil based spray primer
    1ea 2”x2” x 8ft
    2ea 3-4” stainless hose clamps
2ea 36” zip ties (heating and ventilation section 25pk)
    2ea Orbit brass hose Y
2ea Orbit hose shut off valves
    2ea Orbit 90* hose elbows
1ea Orbit “goose neck” (45 degree) hose connector
3ea self tapping sheet metal screws 1.5” long
3ea self tapping sheet metal screws 3” long
    9ea 1.5” wood deck screws
    4ea 1/2” drywall screws
    Teflon tape/paste

    Tools:

    Cordless drill
    Skill saw
    Rotozip/router
    Channel Lock pliers
    Sharpie/pencil

    Construction:
Cut a piece of plywood to fit bottom of “tray” in utility hook up area.

Set softener on plywood in bay and draw around base

Use router/rotozip to cut 1/4-1/2” deep circle for softener to sit in (this distributes weight better on plastic tray of RV.

Backwall made of 3/4” plywood is 22” tall x 24” wide (you’ll be to measure your rig)
Wall is attached at top with self tapping metal screws into aluminum trailer frame.
Bottom is attached to 2x2 screwed to floor via 3” self tapping metal screws

I cut 2 strips of plywood to mount filter and softner to back wall.
Used skil saw to make grooves to hold hose clamps and zip ties

Bad weather here so pics aren’t perfect. Just ask for a detailed photo if you need more info

Untreated (hard) water has lime, iron, sulfur, and other elements that cause damage to your water heater, shower, coffee pots, etc.

Water softeners remove these damaging compounds. The results are: no water spots on glass and appliances, less build up of lime/calcium on water heater and coffee pots, you use less soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

For people with skin issues, softeners sometimes lessen the irritation.

Short answer: softened water lenghtens life of appliances and plumbing.
