    TCL TV, response to remote

New Solitude, has TCL TV's (Never heard of TCL until now but the picture is great on both TV's). The living area TV is mounted on a televator behind the fireplace. The TV seems only to respond to the remote if you point the remote at the bottom of the TV and hold it at just the right angle. So it must be an IR remote and not RF.

Never had a TV remote act like this. We put new batteries in the remote but it did not help. Is this normal operation for this particular TV and remote combination?

Same situation here. I figure the IR receiver is at the very bottom of the TV so you have to hold the remote high enough to be above the fireplace piece of furniture.

I have to be sure to aim over the dining room chair that's in front of the TV/fireplace. That means I'm usually holding my hand/arm about a foot above my head. Often I find pointing it at the ceiling works (the bounce-back theory).

Ditch the Factory TV and get a Samsung 40" HD, it was the first thing to get tossed, and you'll be much happier with the quality.

Had to hold the remote over my head to get the IR signal to work on the TV. Had the TV adjusted on the mount so it was higher up and now the remote works just fine when sitting on the theater seats.

I had the same problem. I raised the TV one notch on the mount in the back......Problem solved.

Two trailers - three TCL TVs - in a year and they're all like this, weak and highly-directional remotes.

Changing channels is my cardio routine... arm up, arm down, arm up, arm down.

It's on a pop-up mount on the fireplace cabinet. We're already at the highest point on our mount.

My TV is also a pop-up from behind the fireplace. The TV mount has two screws on each side that can be loosened and slots where the TV can be moved up or down. Is yours done different? I have enough adjustment that if I move it to the top the TV would hit the bottom of the overhead cabinet. The bottom of the TV needs to be above the fireplace cabinet in order for the remote to work.

Ours too is mounted as high as it can practically be. Move it up any higher on its frame and the already-narrow space between TV and cabinet will be too narrow to reach the switch that raises/lowers the TV.

Grand Design, if you're reading that switch should be located at one of the sides of the bottom of the overhead cabinet, not in the middle, to allow the TV to be raised another inch or so. That will alleviate the complaint about frustrations using the remote while seated in the recliner, as well as provide a little more room for installing a sound bar under the television.
