Many trucks over the years have had death wobble problems. The old Jeeps were one of the worse there was.

I looked on RockAuto, and the steering stabilizer prices start at $22 (Monroe) and go up to $82 (Bilsteins). They are not an expensive replacement. If I was adding a new steering stabilizer, I'd want to replace the shocks and make sure all suspension parts are in 100% condition.

I once had a death wobble on my early SuperDuty F250. These trucks have multi link tie rod ends, and the tie rod joint on the right side wore out. It's offsetting to where a steering box arm is on the driver's side. I also went ahead and replaced the lower ball joints even though they were not worn out. I've had no problem since.

According to the TSB, it’s only 4WD trucks from model years 2017-2019.

Was relieved to see that mine isn’t on it. Sounds scary as hell.

Ok the truck is in the shop. Maybe back by this evening. They have the parts for the leaking valve stems and I did say something about the TSB and the death wobble. We will see

Got truck back. The valve stems were fixed (we will see) and parts were ordered for the steering DW problem. Take back in when trip to Montana is over (next month). Updates then

My admittedly limited understanding of this phenomenon is that every solid front axle vehicle is capable of it. (I've heard IFS also but never actually heard of an occurrence). The problem being the front wheels are solidly connected to each other so when something goes wrong it builds back and forth between the front tires. My opinion of it is that if everything is lined up as its supposed to be it won't happen but when something gets worn, or moves out of spec, or is not quite right, or a even a poor design, the chance is there. The problem has been finding the problem, its not always the same thing wrong and it doesn't need to be drastically wrong.

Ram had an issue with it prior to the 13/14 redesign which was supposed to eliminate it. But over time as the parts wear reports of it have popped up. Just not anywhere near as much as the old design.

I would guess the Ford TSB is to fix a found design issue or part issue that was exacerbating the problem. I doubt it will completely eliminate the possibility of it ever happening though.

Even so, the problem is still very rare. My Dad has always had solid axle trucks (Mostly Ford but now a Ram) for both rv'ing and in our construction business and only had it happen once.

I'm no engineer, just my opinion on what I have picked up reading about it over the years, especially when I still had my Ram.

Normally I would go buy a new steering dampener as I had this happen on a 79 Bronco. But since I have a whole 11,000 miles on the truck (Delivery July 10, 2018) and I'm not the only one, it seams to be a factory problem. As we all know problems happen and that is what the warranty is for. As long as they fix it I am good to go. Might think about better shocks and better steering dampener in the future. Update next month when they try to fix the problem
