All the 18 wheelers have signs on the back saying "this vehicle makes wide right hand turns" . . . there is a reason for that .

If there is something like a post right on the corner, I have moved well into the left lane before turning, with right turn signal on. Usually (but not always!) others understand what it is that you need to do.

As you approach the intersection, look for the dotted lines that indicate two lanes turning right. Take the left one if this is an option.

X2^^. It's very frequent that drivers in the oncoming lane to my right stop short to allow me to swing the truck into that lane to clear the curb/posts/etc. on the right side of the trailer. I do the same for semis in the same situation all the time.

One option I didn't see mentioned in the above situation, if it's just too tight and traffic is too heavy how about passing the road you want to turn right on and instead turn left up the road where you can turn around by going around the block or in a large dirt area/parking lot etc, then you can approach your road with a left turn instead.

I remember hearing a long time ago that the Army had that requirement for drivers as well. I wonder if anyone with direct experience can confirm.

I see a lot of people stop beyond the "stop here line". I just make as wide of a swing as I need and pull right up to them and force them to back up. Yes they get pissed, but I stand my ground. My theory is, if you don't let me go, then nobody goes. I will not back up because someone can't stop where they are supposed to.
