For me it depends on the kid. I don’t speak from experience at this point as our kids are 17 & 13 so they camp with us at this point. If the child in question knows the ropes with an RV and all the do’s/dont’s I would likely permit it if I were towing, setting up, picking up the rig. Definitely not out of state/far away, etc. Like many of you I am particular about our camper and take very good care of it. Would be tough for me unless the kid was as much an RV nerd as myself.

I would consider it with two of my kids (All grown) but not the third. I wouldn’t trust anyone to tow my rig though. I would have to deliver, set up, and take home.

You know your right. My dad used to let me borrow his 1969 Ford with a 11ft camper on its back. I was just a kid but he trusted me and I took good care of it. So it depends on the person.

Thanks for all the replies. My son lives in Arizona and I live in Utah, about a good 10 hours away. A few years ago he asked if I would allow he and his wife to borrow my rv and truck. Knowing he didn't have any experience in pulling an RV or driving a truck, I said sorry but no. He and his wife are trying to work some things out right now and I have assisted him living temporarily out of the home. I think I would rather continue to help him a little financially then take a chance on something happening to our RV that we have worked hard for. Thinking about it, it would probably cost me over $400.00 to drive the 650 miles to the Phoenix area and then back with my RV. Again, thanks for all of yours thoughts.

Independent of how responsible the individual is I would think there are some insurance issues. A standard insurance policy may not allow for fulltiming or non owner usage, just saying.

I agree with Seve7 -- none of our children have any experience towing a rig this size. I have offered to drive it to places and let them stay in it -- for instance, our oldest has talked about having a house built and we offered to set the 5er up in Georgia and then we would fly home to Colorado.

All good points. I'll talk to him tomorrow. Between the care, insurance issues, and cost to pull it 1300 miles there and back. It just doesn't add up. Thanks Forum.
