My trailer has a 50A connection, so it might be different from a 30A connection. Hopefully a SME will chime in to clarify.

Dielectric grease is good to use on the non-conductive part of the connector and helps provide a good seal , but not directly on the pins. Due to the pin pressure and high output in an RV connector it is probably OK to use , however it actually has electrical insulating properties. There are specific contact lubricants for pin application.

Charlie is correct. I misspoke when I originally said to apply the dielectric grease to the contacts. What I should have said is to the plastic/rubber parts (that are usually what binds). Although no harm will be done by getting this grease on the contacts since mechanical metal-to-metal pressure will push through this. What you don’t want to use is a conductive grease that could cause a connection between adjacent terminals or a petroleum based lubricant that could cause the rubber parts to swell.

What I do is stop just short of tightening the ring all the way. When tightening or loosening hold the connector with one hand so you can hold it in a position up or down where it turns the easiest. It is still a little tight to turn but it does help by taking the binding of the plug pulling down on it.

I just replaced my cracked plastic threaded ring with a Furion metal ring 2 days ago. I warmed it up first, then put the leading edge on as far as it would go and then "worked" the rest on. I might not have needed to warm it.

The rubber retaining ring that is a molded part of the cord can be “folded” through the hard plastic or metal collar in a spiral manner. Use dish soap to make this easier and then wash away the soap. If your cord is old or cold . . . this will be more difficult.

Ordered as well. That ring is a pain. I seem to always cross thread it multiple times before it goes on straight. I don't like spending several minutes connecting the power cord. I hope this will help.

Warm cord, strong hands, lube, a little coarse language. It was easy to cross thread the original ring, I had to do a little touch up on the threads with a small triangular file to straighten them out on the trailer. Works like it should now.
