JMCFAN - Are you talking about the electrical plug or the outer lock ring? The electrical contacts should be lubricated with dielectric grease. The outer ring with any silicone based lubricant (or the dielectric grease would probably work here too).

The 50 amp plug on my trailer came with a plastic lock ring and I had a heck of a time getting it on and off. Changed the ring to a metal one and problem solved.

Yes use dielectric grease. You should keep some in your truck. Wise to use it on battery connections, light bulb bases, pig tails, etc. Great for connections exposed to weather/moisture.

No offense--but you do know the plug rotates, right? I'm not writing about the outer locking ring, I'm referencing the actual plug. Once the outer ring is loose, you turn the plug about 10 degrees or so and it pulls right out. If you tug with it in the locked position it will be quite stubborn about coming out.

I camped nearly every weekend for a year and had no clue about this until reading it now. I always just plugged my 30amp in to the trailer and twisted the lock ring until tight. It worked but I'm guessing I didn't have a proper seal?
