    Ram Box

I have a Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes. I am looking at buying a 337RLS. Does any one know if the pin box on the 337RLS will clear the Ram Boxes in a tight turn? Yes I know how amazing the Reese 5th Airborne Sidewinder is I have on on my Jayco. If I don't have to swap it I may not.

I don't think any standard pin box will clear ram boxes. It's been a few years since I was looking into it (didn't end up with ram boxes) but from what I can remember the sidewinder was the only option

I have a Ram 3500 with Ramboxes. I use the Andersen ultimate hitch rail version. I'm towing a Reflection 28BH that uses the standard Lippert 1621 pinbox. So far this combo has worked great. I dont have thousands of miles of towing experience but so far I haven't had any issues. Here are a few pictures.

My first picture shows my camper at almost 90 degrees. I've never had to turn that much. I also have my coupler reversed so that puts the front cap 8" closer to the cab. If it were in the normal position, it could turn 90 but I might have clearance issues with the tailgate.

My bigger concern is putting a 337 on a 2500. Pin weight could be quite high and if payload is something that you're concerned with, it might be an issue.

Feel free to private message me if you'd like to discuss more.

I found a few more pictures that may be useful in case others are also considering Ramboxes. The pictures I posted earlier show clearance to the sides of the box when the hitch was in the middle position and I was turned nearly 90 degrees on somewhat uneven ground.

The picture below shows the very first hookup. I had the ball in the lowest position and coupler in the normal position. I was turned about 40-45 degrees on level ground. I wasn't comfortable with that clearance so I raised the ball and reversed the coupler.

If you're using a regular, non height adjustable hitch and the standard pinbox, I agree with the others it would probably be a problem. If you use an Andersen or the Sidewinder I think you'll be just fine.

    Excellent information thank you.

Judging from your first set of pictures if you turned any tighter the trailer would contact the truck cab and the pin box would contact the ram box. Correct?

Assuming that both the Reflection 28BH and the 337RLS use the Lipper 1621 pin box then your second set of pictures answers my question. It's a clear no it won't work not even close.

My Ram manual says max 2580 lb pin and 15450 lb towing and the Grand Design web site says the average pin weight is 2090 lbs so I am good with the 337.

I have the ball in the middle height position in the 2nd picture. On somewhat level ground and turned near 90, the pinbox does not contact the Rambox or my tonneau cover rails. I'm sure there is some scenario where contact could happen. I still have the ability to raise the ball another inch and adjust my pinbox if more clearance is required. In my personal travels I have yet to find a situation where I've needed to turn that sharp. What hitch do you have? Is there height adjustment?

Regarding pin weight, the GD website uses empty weight. Your camper will be much heavier. If I recall, those who do have 337s have reported real world weights of 2800-2900. Unless you carry very little cargo you'll surely be over payload. That's a decision you'll need to make for yourself though. Some people follow that payload sticker religiously and others completely ignore it. I'm not trying to make you feel bad about it but want to point out things that you or others in the future may not be aware of.

Here's a picture showing what your tires look like at a near 90 degree turn. Not very comforting!

Looking at your profile picture of the truck + trailer it looks like the trailer is level and raising the ball and or lowering the pin box on the trailer will move you away from level so your set up is probably optimum in my view.

Regarding the loading: On my Jayco the C of G for the fresh water tank is about 4 feet behind the aft axle and the kitchen grey water is aft of the fresh water. I can't remember the weight and balance calculation but a full water tank reduces the pin weight a lot. Conversely if I drive with my usual stuff in the basement + full bathroom grey water and the black water tank full and the fresh water and kitchen grey water tanks empty I am way way over the max Ram pin weight.
When I bought my 2012 Ram there were guys on the Ram users forum who were replacing one or more of the leaf springs on the 2500 with the leaf springs for a 3500 and saying that was the only difference between a 2012 Ram 2500 and a 2012 Ram 3500. No idea if its true or not. I am not worried about being a over on short trips to the bush and on highway trips at 65 mph I keep the weight and balance reasonable. I don't know where the tanks are on the 337.

I hear you on the undercarriage stress in tight turns. I hate the sound of the undercarriage screaming in protest in a tight turn. Tight turns on pavement can't be good.

    Appreciate your input.
    Cheers
