Thoughts on getting Imagine 2800bh ready to full-time for 6-8 months?

    Hey Everyone,

Well, I was finally able to talk the boss into taking our kids and hitting the road full-time-ish, and it got me thinking about what I need to do, or upgrade before we set off. I plan on getting new tires (we have a few thousand on the original westlakes), gonna get some tire pressure transmitters, tonneau cover for the truck, and a few other things.

What should I do maintenance wise? I will de-winterize it myself, but I don’t know how to get the bearings repacked, so was gonna pay to have that done..... good idea? You guys have so many great tidbits of things to check and maintain, things that would never cross my mind. What should I do to trailer and/or truck before we get started?

Thanks so much for anything you can think of!
    Jim

It’ll be a wandering route across the northern states west to east, then back some other route....

Look at the springs and check the u-bolt nuts for proper torque. You can find the torque value in your axle owners manual. Repacking bearings is not a difficult task if you are up for learning how to do it.

2800BH? If you have the early 2018 with the schwintec slides and 3500 axles, then check the leaf springs ASAP. Mine are darn near flat as a board and only a year old. Planning on upgrading/replacing these in spring/summer.

Otherwise it has been a good trailer so far, everything reasonable easy to get at.

Check and touch up all the caulking on the roof and around doors/windows. Give it a coat of wax, at least the front cap if you're not up to the whole trailer. Lube everything you can (slides, dump pulls, hinges). Go over every inch of the trailer you can and inspect for problems. Sanitize water systems. Air up the spare. Check for loose screws, hinges, etc.

I'd personally move the door catches to be located on the same part of the door with the handles. On opposite sides it creates a lot of bending which will most likely pull apart the glue in time.

My advice, when you do buy those new tires, is go with a different brand.
    Like Goodyear or Sailun.

Does anyone know if Grand Design is fixing these? I’ve only had the trailer since April.... :-(

Exactly, DMB..... was going to comb the forum for suggestions.... I’ve known Goodyear’s were recommended, but wasn’t sure about Sailun, price is not my biggest deciding factor, safety & durability are.... do you have personal experience with either brand? Thanks!

Btw, love the solar addition u put on!

Can you clarify! I’m not understanding what you are saying, sorry! I cannot picture it in my head....

    Thanks!

Unless yours are different already, on my 2500rl the catches were not right by the handle. So, looking at a door with the hinges on the upper right and bottom right, and the handle on the bottom left... The piece that would actually catch and hold a cabinet closed was on the top left. Meaning, you are applying a pulling force to the bottom left of the cabinet in order to break the catch on the top left. This force essentially bends the wood each time until enough force is pulled that there cabinet pops open. This flexing over time broke the glue bond of the glass to the wood.
If the catch was relocated to the bottom left, now the pulling force is directly over the latch and no bending force is applied.
My guess is they put them on the top so they are out of the way when you put things away. However, for wear and tear this is a bad idea.
Relocating them is very easy and something I plan to do immediately when I take delivery of my 2800. Only think to be careful for is overtightening the screw and stripping out the hole since the "wood" is so soft.
