Dodged a Michelin bullett
So yesterday I was cleaning up the truck and just checking everything out for a tow to Houston next month. While putting tire dressing on I spot this on the right rear outside tire! Truck has 2800 miles and I assure you it wasn't curbed. Discount tire called Michelin this morning and sent a pic, they will warranty it! Michelin said defective sidewall. The gash it about 2-3 inches long but tire never lost air. It would have let go for sure with the trailer hitched up. I will definitely check trailer AND truck tires more often now.

Holy cow! I don't really pay close attention to my (new) truck tires. I mean I look at them and check pressures but nothing like how I pay attention to my trailer tires! I'll start paying more attention now! Yikes!

Getting under there and inspecting tires on the RV and truck every so often as you take care of adding pressure is one of the most important safety steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.

This is a first. With all the web sites I visit (truck and RV) I have never heard of a Michelin issue. I have had them on my trucks since 77 and never even had a flat or failure attributed to the tire (one bad valve stem this year).

Same here, been buying Michelin's for years and never a problem. You're welcome to all and just wanted everyone to be aware and check the truck tires too, they carry a lot of weight with these big trailers. I just hope Michelin didn't hire a few Westlake engineers lol. Kidding kidding

I'm not sure how this is a Michelin tire issue. How do we know that road debris didn't hit the sidewall. It could happen to any tire.

I am guessing the damage would be just a likely to happen on the inner sidewall as opposed to the outer sidewall we all check. I doubt anyone looks at that part of the tire. I hope that makes sense.

That's true and very possible. But there is no other damage on the tire, rim, or inner fender to indicate that. Discount tire inspected it closely and Michelin looked at the above picture and said no sign of any strike damage, just defective tire. Again anything is possible so I mainly posted to just make my fellow RV'ers aware and check your tires frequently. We must all look out for each other! As a side note, dually's look weird with just one tire lol

If it's made by mankind there will be a bad one no matter how remote it happens.
