Both trucks were done by Line-x. I dont see the big fold down pole on your tailgate, did you remove it?

I'm thinking that jlspence99 has the new version where the pole is inside the tailgate like the step. The truck in his signature is a 2019 so my assumption is it's not a bar proud of the tailgate.

You might be correct, the two trucks I am referencing are a 2013 and a 2016, so this makes more sense.

My 2019 F-350 has the factory spray in bed liner and they sprayed the tail gate too. I have the built in step with the grab pole thingy.

I think this is correct. When they went from the surface mounted pole to the one inside the tailgate, they removed the plastic tailgate inner panel.

Our Ford has the step and pole. Nope, won't work when hitched.

It really shines when we need a place to put on our waders and boots before heading down the bank to fly fish and not get gravel and mud in either.

I had one on my '09 Ford. Wish I had it on my '15, BUT I have a slide in camper & have to remove tailgates, those tailgates are WAY heavy. Needed Sue to grab an end when removing it.

My 2018 F150 does not have the neat tailgate and I wished it did. At 5.7, it is a chore to get into the back of the truck. Now when I step in back of my 71 f100 flareside, that is much easier. I seriously considered going with the old style f250 as my tow vehicle to stay with what I consider a proper-sized pickup. My wife and I saw the new GMC tailgate demonstrated at a car show late last year year. It was pretty darn cool and had me thinking about going to GMC. You know the power steps on those pickups will slide back allowing better access to the front of the bed of the pickup. That was a pretty cool option as well.
But I might add this as a low cost approach.

I have a 2017 F350 with the step and pole. As mentioned, the pole is not exposed until popping the step out. I have the Linex spray in liner and the inside of the tailgate is fully covered.

Great design and very sturdy. I clock in at around 250 lbs. and it is very stable.

The Ford is good... they deserve points for providing a step with a handle and relative simplicity (I use mine a lot and would have to get a corner step without it). GM has those nice embedded bumper-corner steps and the new steps ahead of the wheels which are very handy and the very definition of simple.

However I really do think Ram nailed this multi-function tailgate thing. Just open it up like a normal car door... easy-to-use, intuitive, and useful. Hopefully they designed it well. I know I would use the sideways opening most of the time.
