The '17 model year was the introduction of the "fourth generation" of the SuperDuty lineup. Wikipedia sums up the changes.

Edit: The wikipedia link keeps getting deleted (I don't know why!)...sorry, you'll have to google it.

I have an '18 F350 SRW, Crew Cab short box. Pretty well optioned Lariat, no moonroof, no adaptive cruise, but pretty much everything else. Have just shy of 13k on the truck and love it.

I have the truck in my sig. My dad told me once to never buy a first year of a new body style, engine, or trans. Gives the manufacturer time to work the bugs out...of course he told me that 50 years ago & probably isn't pertinent with today's vehicles...but it's always worked for me

I think you'd be good with any of those since the motor hasn't changed in any of those years. I think 15 was the last year that had turbo problems. I do think some of the features are better starting in 17, so it depends what you are looking for.

Don't think you can go wrong with any of those model years. The 2016 was the last year of the all steel body and previous generation interior. A lot of people jumped on '16's when the '17 aluminum body was announced. I had a '17 F250 diesel and now a '19 F350 dually. Both trucks have been totally problem and bug free. The 18's and '19's got the 10 hp/tq bump to 450 hp and 935 torque rating. These were really just minor tuning changes. The basic engine and trans is the same. The 2017 and up do have a much nicer interior and more features related to towing and safety though. I think it would come down to price, condition, and which body style you like best. Also the interior space, especially in the back seat, is much bigger in the 17's and up.

I traded my 17 F350 Lariat in on a 19. After 2 years and 20,000 miles I took a $6,000 hit on the trade. They sold my 2017 on their used truck lot for ($58,000) only $3,000 less than what I paid for it when I bought it new 2 years prior.

When I bought my 2019 I had a $3,000 Private Cash Offer plus $250 USAA rebate and $500 Ford Cash for $3,750 in rebates. The 2019 truck was discounted (X-plan) about $4,800. So with the rebates and discount my heavily optioned Lariat Ultimate with a $74,015 MSRP truck cost $65,500.

My point is with used prices as high as they are and with discounts on new truck it doesn’t pay to buy 1 or 2 year used.

I dunno, maybe I got lucky... I bought my 2016 F-350 SD diesel Lariat dually in late December of 2018. 1 owner, 21,000 miles, bought/serviced/traded at same dealership in Clearwater, Certified Pre-Owned. Dealership had all maintenance records and made them available to me. 12-month/12,000 mile bumper-to-bumper Ford CPO warranty. $41,000 was my price. My point is, deals are out there. You just have to remain vigilant. I was looking for a couple of weeks when this one came along. I was searching on AutoTrader.com and when the alert popped up, I moved on it. I just today purchased the 10-year/125,000 mile Ford PremiumCARE extended warranty on it. It's GOTTA be my last truck!

We bought the 17 F-250, and I really like it save 2 things.....
    1. The drivers seat is misery to me (I’ve heard others complain, but I’ve heard others say theirs is fine, so ya know, whatever. I’m 6’ 200lbs, so would’ve thought I’d be exactly average)
    2. We should have bought the 350....

Good luck with the trucks, I’ve owned Fords, Dodges, Chevys, and Toyota’s. I don’t dislike the others, but I do like the Fords. Cheers!

$41,000 is a great price for a 2016 F350 DRW CREW CAB 6.7L 4WD LARIAT Sounds Like they mistakenly priced it as a 6.2L Gas Engine instead of a 6.7L Diesel.

Wholesale auction value with 21,000 miles is $48,200 in condition rated 4.0 out of 5.0

I just looked up ones sold at dealer only auctions in January (last month) with similar mileage

    Miles/price
    20,271 miles / $47,700 (Red - Tampa)
    30,179 miles / $48,300 (Black - Dallas)
    42,066 miles / $46,750 (Black - Tampa)
