We love the Solitude. Then again, we loved our Reflection! We really like the residential fridge and like most others who have switched, wouldn't go back. Less variation in temps, no ice build up in the freezer, more solid doors and it gives the interior of the RV a more home like (residential) feel.

How do guys boondock with a residential fridge? I thought they used a huge amount of electricity. Do you just run your generator the whole time?
I thought about getting one but don’t think we have enough solar to support something with that much draw.

Inverter, some generator depending on specifics. RV fridges are terribly inefficient but many like the convenience of propane on the road because it's already plumbed. I despise RV fridges and our RV fridge we just replaced was sucking down 10x the electric our residential does. I posted the kilowatt readings in another post.

If you are boondockin a lot it might not be the best choice. I have 2 6volt batts, last summer I dry camped on a warm nite where we didn't need AC. The frig used batt only and next AM the batt monitor showed about 1/4 left. I ran a Honda 2000 gen for about an hr while we ate breakfast and batts were back up to about 3/4. All was fine for rest of day while we did some sightseeing. I now have a 3500Watt dual fuel inverter gen in prep for a late summer/fall trip we are planning (east coast/south and hm to west coast) plan to dry camp here and there going and coming. I have tested it and will run AC frig etc with some power management. We are not go out to the boonies for several weeks types but do like to get of the grid some, each to there own. I really like the big frig. Have seen a lot of stuff about can't get it out if it fails. I did some measurements and I think with doors off it would come out. Good/bad to anything.

That's interesting, thanks for the reply.
Just out of curiosity, I looked online at a few random refrigerators about the size of our Dometic.
This one is 1.4 amps AC so it would be about 14a running off our inverter.
That's HALF what our 8.0 Dometic pulls now.
Plus it's probably 1/4 the price of an RV fridge.
I'm going to do further research now.Resistance is Not Futile, It's Voltage Divided by Current.

Good luck w/ ur research. I'm the wrong guy to address the fine points of amps/inverters etc. The frig that came in our unit from GDRV is a Samsung model RF 18HFENBSP it is 18CF side by side upper w/ freezer drawer below. it has an ice maker which would probably be real pain as a remodel project. W/ our floor plan we can get to the right hand upper door w/ slides in. We are a year into using it and so far so good. I think the onboard inverter is 2000 watts dedicated to frig.
