It would seem from the definition of Demister..... that it would be internal to the cooling unit.... A google search of dometic Rm2662 demister brings up an entire cooling unit.... cost $500-600... time to replaced more than 1/2 hour.... I'm wondering if terminology is confused.... A thermister cost $60-80... easy to change in 1/2 hour.... not trying to be a pain here just want to learn about these fridges..... Norm

I would agree as the demisters I have seen (not one used in this type unit) they have no moving parts but are like a condensing plate with small holes. I used to run one with LN2 through it to condense oil in a vacuum system. A Thermister on the other hand attaches to the fins inside the fridge usually by a clip. As you move it one way or the other it will increase or decrease the fridge temp.

So I noticed on the back of my fridge on the outside at the top where there are cooling fins there is a little thingy screwed to those fins , would this be a thermistor as well?

That would be a thermal switch.... makes contact at 140 deg. turns on cooling fans that blow air over the fins, and out the exhaust vents...

Thanks, I will check this out over the weekend. To many gizwidgets on these things with names that get confusing , at least to me. Ours seems to run ok but I like to absorb and write down info to keep on hand when I may need it.

    Brian,
Probably more than you want to know but here is a quick summery of what they do. They are a resistor thermometer hence the name That's why if you move it to a different fin it can make your fridge run cooler or warmer. They work only in a small range of temps but are very accurate in that range. There are far better devices for controlling temperature but......wait for it....

Thermistors are very cheap to produce
They are also quite rugged and it is rare that they fail.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
