    Chevy 2020 specs

Wow, do I wish I had waited. I just took a long look at Chevy's 2020 SRW towing specs. Based on what I'm reading, their gas SRW trucks probably could remain in spec towing some of the Solitudes. They're literally advertising 2500 crew cab payloads of 3879 lbs in a 2500 and 4433 in a 3500 SRW. Payloads go up as you shorten the cab. My guess is 4WD, an Anderson fifth wheel hitch, full gas tank and a driver subtract, what 750 lb from those numbers? I'm not in any way unhappy with my 2018 truck, but just from the numbers their new 2500 seems to have more in common with the 2018 3500 diesel than it does with the 2500. I guess the question is are these numbers real or do the door stickers in reality differ by 1000 lbs or more from the specs?

Impressive, but I still wouldn’t tow a Solitude without an exhaust brake.

I'll be impressed if I see payloads over 4,000lbs for a Denali 3500 Crew 4x4 SRW diesel.

Payload has gone up from 2018 but will ultimately be determined in how the truck is optioned.

I do not know the Chev (or any other brand) numbers for the 2020 models. However, the diesel engine in current trucks is about 800# heavier then the gas engine. A 1 ton (350/3500) SRW has 1,500# (11,500-10,000#) higher GVWR than a 3/4 ton (250/2500) truck. So a gas 3/4T will have roughly 700# less payload than a diesel 1 ton. This is for the same configuration (bed length, cab type, running gear, trim level, options (except diesel) etc. The diesel trucks often have a little heavier transmission, rear axle, etc that will decrease the 700# delta even further. Bottom line is not as much payload difference between a 3/4T gas and 1T diesel truck as you would initially think. This is true today and I expect with the future models.

PS I pull my Solitude 310GK with my F350 SRW diesel and am in spec on all my numbers, but with little margin. Loosing 700# would put me well over payload capacity. Now if I went to lower trim level, standard cab, 2WD, short bed gas 3/4T I might just make it. But I am not willing to give up the creature comforts, not to mention how well the diesel tows 14,000# trailer in the Rocky Mountains. To each there own.
