Upsizing 5.5 kw to 7.0 kw generator

I'm likely about to purchase a 376. We boondock a lot and live in the deep south. Definitely will have 3 a/c's, my question is would upsizing to a 7.0 kw generator be of benefit. The 7.0kw is essentially the exact same physical size and actually gets slightly better fuel economy. I dont mind paying a little extra if the EMS will cycle the a/c's less frequently due to the larger generator, plus there will always be something else using wattage. Thanks in advance

Are you running the generator on propane? According to the brochure the 7.0 runs at 6500 (54.2 amps) on propane. Only 11 pounds heavier. If I had known what I do now I might have gone that way. So far my 5500 has run well and no problems

I havent purchased yet. Thinking seriously about ordering with no gen set and installing the 7.0 kw. I'll be using gas.

FWIW, we have a 394M with gas ONAN 5.5k. I have boondocked a few times in the year we have owned this unit. In upper 90’s with high humidity we ran all three a/c units and never had an issue. If I recall correctly the fuel consumption was just north of 1gal/hr. But that can vary greatly on load.

My 350M will run all three ACs at once, as long as you start them one at a time. I had the water heater and refrigerator set on propane.

Hi, I ordered our 2017 350M without a generator. After rethinking, we decided to purchase one. I opted to install the 7.0, purchased from norwall.com just to have the extra wattage/amps to be able to power everything at once if necessary. I believe the dealer told us the 5.5 was rated to run 2 of our 3 A/C units safely with a margin. It weighs about the same and has the same footprint and connections. Easy install but you have to get the exhaust pipe from GD. Probably not necessary but I figured, more power is always better when it comes to generators!

Does the gen. prep not include the exhaust pipe? All other connections compatible?

Correct, the prep package does not include the exhaust pipe. I purchased the pipe with the generator and it was incorrect. I had to order it from my GD dealer. You'll need wire nuts, wire conduit and battery cables. Everything else was compatible.

Thanks. Would you happen to know the part number off hand.
