First trip CAT scales had me at 19,500...BUT I was over the trucks GVWR by 900 lbs !!!
I was under weight on both front and rear axle ratings, though by couple of hundred lbs.
For years I read that Ford under-rates their actual rated capacity to include a 10 +% safety factor.
That means almost 1,000 lbs to play with.
I always felt the axle ratings were the most important re actual weight GVW capacities, anyway.

My TV is a well-maintained 2001 7.3 PSD and its still going strong.
I travel much lighter now wt my 2017 307 MKS with a hitch weight of 1600 lbs. and a UVW of 9,872 lbs.

I had a 2017 F250 6.7 SB 4x4 King Ranch. The truck has a GVWR of 10000 lbs and a payload of 19?? lbs. When I weighed tv and not fully loaded 303, 600 lbs over. Some folks I talked to said don’t worry about it, but got to thinking and reading all the information on here and bit the bullet. I had little to no knowledge about tv weights prior to getting into camping 3 years ago. First was a 26’ TT Ultra towed with a F150. Struggled a bit in the smoky mountains with it. Got the F250, no problem with the TT. Then without doing my homework, I got the GD 303. Discovereded this forum and realized I had a lot to learn. I’m 64 so this should be the last truck for me.

I keep telling people to just skip the 3/4 tons. I have the smallest lightest Reflection ever made and I’m over capacity on my 3/4 ton, so I know pretty much anyone towing any other fiver with a 3/4 ton is overloaded.

Well...I wish you the best of luck with it AND you're ready for the Bighorns and the Rockies now.
    GO FOR IT !!!
I've been retired a few years and $75K would take a big bite outa the 'ol nest egg.
Might have to upgrade sometime, but waiting for the turbo-powered gassers to come up to speed.

Rob, online here, tows a 303 with an HDD F150 turbo powered gasser,
so the times they are a changin.

Diesels are a PIA anymore, especially when they break ! Ive been lucky though, never had a breakdown...YET !!! Close , but none.
    Anyways,
You'll be passing me on those western mountain passes at 60 mph,
while Im slowly chugging along at 45 !!

BUT.. ... wave as you go by.

Don’t feel bad. I’m on my 6th new Ford truck since 2014. These trucks hold their value so you usually don’t get killed too badly when trading as long as you buy them right.

In California you lose a boat load in taxes you have to spend on each truck. I had 4 in 4 years, chasing "the best" LOL Lost a boatload in taxes..

Fortinatly here in Florida you only pay sales tax on difference between trade and new vehicle. Not like California where you lay 7.5% on sale price of new vehicle reguardless of trade in.

    Hey DMB,
Not sure I agree with that.

The towing guidelines for my F-250 state 12,000 lb fifth wheel towing or a max GCWR of 20K #.
Considering the curb weight of my truck is 7,500 wet (wt fuel, passengers and hitch),
one can clearly see where a 5er weighing in at 11,500 loaded, still has room to go.
UVW is 9,872 on my '17. 307 MKS so were talking travelin weights.

PLUS, the safety factor engineered into these trucks allows for the truck's GVWR to be slightly above stated values by @ 10%, so I find it hard to grasp why the GVWR of a newer 3/4 ton is only 10K ??
In my series pick up, the only difference btwn a 3/4 & a 1 ton was the helper springs.
The GAWR wt a single rear axle were nearly identical.
I installed Air Ride air bags to offset that disparity and my RAWR were always under max weight.
