    Mexico

Anyone made the venture down to the Mexico coast from the US?

Did you take a caravan or drive independently?
Recommend a place to stay close to the water that is safe and has hook ups and can accommodate 30TT?
How far in advance should you make reservations?

    Thanks Brian

You might want to specify Gulf, Pacific, or Baja Coast. I have friends who spend quite a bit of time in Puerto Penasco that I could query for you.

    Jim

P.S. please keep the responses on topic and not on the pros or cons of visiting another country or politics.

    Jim,

Appreciate the response and welcome any feedback your friends can offer. But I do not have a specific Mexico destination in mind.

Just have read some blogs about people that go every year and how much they enjoy it(blogs a couple of years old) and they did not specify what RV parks they stayed in.

Would like to plan a trip south for the winter, been to Mexico several times via plane and always had an enjoyable experience so thought about going for a month or two.

Thought maybe some veteran GD owners might chime in and plan a caravan down south one winter.

Seeing as we’ve been camping an hour North of Mexico since November we’ve been curious about this as well, but since the Department of State constantly issues warnings against going there, due to violence against tourists, it’s not a destination we’ve considered.
It would be interesting to hear from people that have actually been there (recently) and what their experiences were.

Jim, we are down at 164 for the Vegas Rally, I would love to talk to you about going into Mexico. We have often discussed it but because of the bad reputation haven't really considered it. Ask your friends about Potrero Chico Parque south of Loredo, TX. We are debating taking the RV there or just road tripping it.

I visit Mexico on a regular basis and have never had a problem. Been to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) many times, stayed in the condos and camped on the beach. There is an RV park at Playa Bonita and also The Reef, both on the beach and both decent. Have not been to Playa Del Oro RV park so can't say how it is. We also visit Puerto Lobos which is 100 miles South of RP. It is very primitive there in fact they just got electricity five years ago. There are no RV parks, just a primitive store or two and sometimes a restaurant (small businesses pop up one year and will be gone the next). The people are very friendly and we always bring them things we know they need like clothes and food. They are a native tribe, Seri. One of our group owns a small rock house on the beach and a bunch of us stay there while another group of 30-40 stays on the pristine white sand beach, that group has been going over 40 years and is known as the "Lobos Riders" and I was lucky enough to be inducted into their group. Actually with a little beer they will welcome anyone.

For the most part the Mexican people are very gracious hosts, they love to see us visit. The local governments and police cater to us, they depend on tourism and will go to great lengths to make sure we are safe and happy. Once in Hermosillo we came to a busy intersection where police were directing traffic. When we pulled up they stopped all traffic from every direction and waved us through. Another time in Puerto Lobos the rock house was broken into while none of us were down there., Two outboard motors were taken. The local police officer came to investigate and several weeks later he contacted us in Tucson and reported that he caught the thieves, arrested them and he had our motors at the police station for us to pick up next time we were down. That doesn't even happen here! I feel just as safe, if not safer in Mexico than I do in a big American city. Just respect them and you will have no problems, they want you to come back!

How about golf on the beach? The local people are very poor but some more wealthy people own vacation homes there. Oh and the fishing is great! There's dolphins, sea lions and whales too!

Check out Baja Amigos. I stumbled across this some time ago and looks like a great way to visit Mexico, especially the first time as part of a Caravan.

We went to San Fleipe Mexico 2017 with the Escapee's Chapter 8 Mexican connection, and a lot of fun. Was going to go in 2018 but got sick the day we were to leave did not make it. hope to go next year, but not sure. May be go with a bunch from here, if you can get a group together.
