    trading gas for diesel

Thinking about trading my 2016 gasser for a new diesel. How difficult is it to get a good trade in when I have holes in bed where 5th wheel hitch goes?

I wouldn't worry about it, it's a 3/4 ton meant to tow. In Texas they'll just put a drop on liner in it and sell it. Most people looking at one are buying it to tow anyway. I left the B&W base in my '17 F250 when I traded and kept the top piece. The new dually came with the puck system and the guy that bought my truck was ecstatic that he didn't have to buy the base, bought it to tow smaller fifth wheel.

When we traded our 2016 Chevy 2500HD gasser for the Duramax, I left the rails in place, (the salesman was glad I did). We thought we came away pretty good, although we've bought 6 vehicles from him, maybe that helped. . . . . .

Traded my 2016 2500HD gas for a 2018 Duramax 2500 - the thing that hurt resale the most was just the fact that it was a gasser. When you talk HD you're talking diesel, at least are far as most people who use them for towing think. And if you're towing very often, you're thinking diesel. Also, mine was not 4x4, so that hurt too. Still not sorry we traded though. Saw it on the lot a week or so later - dealer sprayed in liner and you'd never know it ever had holes.

Non-issue. Once you go diesel you will never buy another gas engine truck.

Until you run into all the diesel emission control system issues. DPF regen (and inevitable costly replacement). DEF tank, pump, freeze/thaw durability. And so on. Once every 5000 miles or so, I encounter a grade where I wish I had a diesel. Otherwise, I am pleased with my decision to stay with a gasoline engine. Many different perspectives on this .

You know Rob as usual you are correct. Each person must evaluate their own needs and budget. And yes the maintenance on diesel's cost more. So what I should have said is that I will never buy another gas engine.

    Nick,

If you move up to a diesel, bypass the 3/4-ton and go straight for a 1-ton SRW. The diesel powertrain is much heavier and a 3/4-ton diesel can come in with significantly less available payload than the same truck with a gas motor. The cost difference between a 3/4-ton and a 1-ton isn't what will get you... it's the cost of the diesel motor.

Look for one with the 5th wheel prep kit already installed. Might be tough to find but well worth it. Diesel=3500. 2500's are notoriously low on payload.
