Does anybody else pay to get their RV waxed?

I don't know about you guys but waxing my 5th wheel is one of my all time least favorite chores. I dread it every time and I wax it twice a year. I started splitting the job into two days but that hasn't really made it any less of a chore. But, it pains me to pay somebody else to do the work. In my area they charge $7.50/ft for a wash and wax which is about $300. That's $5 worth of wax and $295 for labor!

So today I climbed up on the roof to start the wash/wax process. Of course all the dirty water ran off onto the windows and sides. I climbed down and washed and dried two sections to prep for wax. While doing that I kept thinking how many water spots I just created all over the RV. I really need to wash and dry the whole rig. But, if I do that I need to wax it right away so it doesn't get dirty before waxing. I didn't want to wax the whole RV in one day. Stopped doing that last year. It was stressing me out and I don't handle stress nearly as well now as when I actually had stress in my life while working. I guess retirement does that to you. Anyway, I started waxing a small spot while looking at the dirty mess I created further down the RV and finally decided that was it. I'm done waxing RV's!

As much as I h*te paying $600/year for wax, I guess I'm finally at a point in my life where I don't want to dread chores. I won't miss the $600. It was the principal of paying somebody else to do something that is really very simple that bothered me.

Has anybody else thrown in the (microfiber) towel?

I really don't drink much any more but I may go to the store and buy a beer just so I can sit outside tomorrow and watch them work while sipping a cold drink. That might make me feel better about the $300...

I stopped waxing my RV's a few years ago. For me, I think the best method is to sit in a chair with a cool adult drink, watch four young guys wash and wax it, and write them a check when they are done.

I get mine done annually at a large RV park in Myrtle Beach, SC. The crew washes the roof and the entire rig, then polishes the rig. They use orbital buffers to apply the polish/sealant and take it off by hand. $260 for my 42' Solitude.

I’m with ya Brian. I wax mine once or twice a year. My trailer isn’t as big as yours though. One reason I do it is because I’m anal about most things. I worry (unnecessarily I’m sure), that the wax someone else might use isn’t meant for decals, and will eventually cause them damage. I only use 303 on the decals, and do so every couple months.

I may be buying a Momentum, and probably won’t get full body paint. I just told my wife I may have to pay someone to wax it. Just too much real estate.

I wash it with soap and water to get the serious dirt off, then wash areas with Aero Cosmetics waterless wash and wax it an area at a time. 45 minutes or an hour in the evening with a beer or three and some blues playing on my Bluetooth speakers and it’s done in a week. Actually a nice de-stressing time in the evening.

Yep that what I do. Get done annually from a detailer then the rest of the year I use a wash and wax to wash it. Little more expensive in Tucson they want 10 bucks per foot but if I'm not doing it is still worth the money.

Blue Beacon will wash and wax your truck with RV as you roll thru. After eating bugs for 1800 miles, we drove thru one in Kansas and were pleasantly surprised by the job and low cost. $45?

That has been my routine for a couple of years now. Works pretty good, then our neighbor pulls in and has pro's wash his 5th wheel, it's sparkly and pretty. I am thinking man they did a really good job on that. I finished my waterless wax routine and was comparing the two. My neighbors is much more shiny, mine has some old streaks on it and some dull corners. Need to do a full detail on it as it is approaching 2 years old. So I asked my neighbor about who did the work and what it cost, found out his rig has full body paint and it's less than 6 months old. Duh, it's gonna be shinier than a 2 year old rig.

I checked out the folks that did the work, competent, professional, $10 a foot for a wash and wax. I either need to carve out 4 days to do my own or pay up. Sitting on the fence tonight.

I've had it done a couple of times a year and use Blue Beacon truck washes where ever I'm at (I have their app on my phone) in between. Here's a couple of shots that was taken in Daytona Beach about a year ago.

I think the trick is that soft water that's spot free.....

I contemplating putting a ceramic coating on my trailer myself. With roughly the same amount of work the coating should last 3 or so years.
