    Unusual situation with bearing size

Completed the installation of the new break assy today. However, I have an unusual situation. Three of the outer bearings are LM67048, 5.2K axle. The 4th outer bearing is 15123. Looking at the Dexter bearing manual, bearing 15123 is for 6K axle capacity, 6 bolt Hub, 12” x 2” brake size. Both 5.2K and 6K hubs use the same break assy. The only difference being the outer bearings/races are different. The manual also says this is a “special application”. Does anyone have any input on this?

So far I have found the 15123 has a width of .750" and the LM67048 is .660".
Can not see if this is an issue or not.

I'm more curious about how one axle can have two different spindles. Is this a common issue?

    Nick1234,

I have never heard of this. Axles have the same spindles on each end.
This is obviously a "mis-build" . . . you should have no problem getting this axle replaced by Dexter.

I do not think this is common. Somebody at Dexter during the manufacturing process got the bearings mixed up. The ID and OD of the bearing is the same as the rest, an easy mistake but should not have been made. At least they are the right bearings and not too big. How did the bearings look? Any discoloration or wear patterns?

The bearing looked good. The spindle is not the same as the others. The 67048;bearing doesn’t fit on the spindle. I’m just so tired of these problems on a brand new trailer.
