    fuel fee

We went into Yuma yesterday and I decided to fuel up since diesel in AZ is almost $1 less per gallon then in CA. Went to Arco on 16th street and put my draft card in the reader. I was surprised to get a notice that there was a .35 free for using a draft card. I left and will not do business with Arco.

Yep, I found this out many years ago at Arco. The price sign out front is deceiving...

.35 fee additional per gallon or one time .35?
Here in the Southeast there are several stations that still list "Cash" price and then when you swipe your card you pay "Credit" price which can be .05-.08 more per gallon.

This is one of the times when the RV Plus Card and a lifetime Good Sam membership come in handy. I know that Pilot Flying J truck stops tend to be on the high side, but when you are in the middle of towing they are very convenient. The card lowers the pump to the cash price, then takes $0.08 off that.

The Techron Card from Texaco/Chevron also gives you a discount of $0.03/gallon when you get your bill.

The Sinclair Card lowers the price at the pump by $0.05 to $0.10 depending on the station.

Does Good Sam's still offer lifetime memberships? What is the RV Plus Card and how do you get one?

    Thanks.

You can find out about the RV Plus Card at https://www.rvpluscard.com/

It also gets you some other discounts, like $0.10 off of each full gallon of propane. Their prices for propane are usually reasonable for the area, but can vary from one location to another in the same city. It pays to check around.

If you have a current Good Sam membership, you can upgrade to life at https://www.goodsam.com/club/member/life/

It's more expensive now than when we got it. It looks like they offer the same discount on diesel for lifetime and annual memberships. Lifetime used to be a bigger discount.

ARCO (at least in AZ) charge $0.35 to use a DRAFT bank card. The price/gallon is the same as the CASH price. I haven't used ARCO in years, but think the price per gallon is higher if using a credit card. If using CASH, you need to go inside and pre-pay. Then, if you don't pump enough to use all of that CASH, you have to go back inside to get your change. What a PITA, especially if the place is busy! I stick to Costco when I can.

If by Draft Card you mean Debit Card, that which comes out of your checking account, I never use that card for fuel (or any other Point of Sale purchase for that matter). I only use a credit card. There are better fraud protections on a credit card, and worst case scenario I'd rather have some or all of my credit limit tied up in a dispute than cash in my bank account. I figure if it costs me more at the pump using credit, so be it. Besides, the points (cash points, not mileage) we earn on our credit card more than compensate for the increased cost of using credit. JMHO.

Correct. DEBIT card. I've never used mine.
