    3500HD and 2500HD prices

So, I’ve been following prices of new 2500HD and 3500HD Duramax trucks. It seems prices have come down some. Is it because the new model year trucks are just around the corner, or, are they just not selling like they did?

I heard it was because most people buy a Ford for towing.

Tons of things go in to pricing.

Not only is the new model year close, but the 2020 Chevy/GMCs are a new design. GM might want to clear the older models out of inventory.

There might be sales or profit goals that need to be met.

Winter is pretty much done, so sales of 4x4s might be slowing, and sales to the construction industry not picked up yet.

A lot of sales incentives are regional in nature, and the lower prices you're seeing might not be true elsewhere.

There's probably a dozen more possible reasons.

There are many factors that determine pricing on new trucks.

Myself, I live in Flint, Michigan where most Chevy/GMC trucks are built. My entire family (with the exception of my generation) has worked, one way or another, for GM. I had 3 great uncles who were involved in the Great Sit Down Strike of 1936, so I have a lot of experience and background knowledge when it comes to GM trucks.

Prices begin to fluctuate, like Barbara and Dave said, when the market changes, when dealers have an overage on supply, or when new models are set to roll out.

Like said above, the 2020 model will come with a new body style and countless new upgrades. For example, the 2020 GMC Sierra will come with a heads-up display, as an option. Plus the 6 way, multi-function tailgate system.

Dealers begin receiving their next years models, typically, around October. However, the best time to buy a truck happens between the week of Christmas and New Years.

Dealers usually offer year end-rebates, but you combine those with GM rebates, and other offers, and you might get a huge discount off your vehicle.

Personally, I bought my 2018 GMC Denali 2500HD during this week and - between the GM Family discount/GM Rebates/dealer rebates - the $71k price tag was reduced by more than 31%. Your experience will absolutely vary.

I plan on turning my truck in for a new 2020 model the week between Christmas and New Year 2020/21.
