I sailed most of my adult life (up until my first wife died) and came to understand the space constraints, logistical issues of living aboard, and the massive amounts of maintenance and upkeep on a boat. "Other Rob" (the one in Canada) seems to do a good job of splitting his time and resources between RVing and a good-sized boat. He also seems to have more resources than I do... As retirement approached, RVing became the more sensible choice for Laura and me. None of this has stopped me from looking and dreaming whenever we're near water, though.

I have sailed since I was a teenager, many years ago! My Dad had many different makes over the years, he had a bad case of two footitis! We enjoyed them all. I came to be a keelboat owner later in life and currently have an Ericson 34 that my Dad had owned since new. I couldn't let it leave the family when my Dad passed so I bought out my Brother and Sister to keep it in the family. On my bucket list is to sail down the ICW, over to the Bahamas and then onto the Caribbean! We also have our beautiful Solitude to explore by land. I will be retiring this summer so that I will have the time to do all this exploring. After reading about all the mods and fixes on this forum, I have a lot of work in front of me as well. But work I will enjoy.

We're fortunate to have water 22 steps from our front door, and our river is navigable for 650 miles. It'd be nice to have a 36' trawler with a single Ford Lehman diesel to do The Loop in. Only takes a year to cover the 5000 miles--if you're motivated to keep moving pretty fast.

It's a lot safer to see the USA on the road--and much less hassle than having to do it by water.

I've been a RVer since 1995, and I've put a total of about 700 miles on my trailers--not including delivery. My Reflection is 4 1/2 years old and has delivery miles only. The problem is our home campground is so nice, and the Blue Ridge Mountains NE of Atlanta are just incredibly beautiful. We don't want to travel domestically.

I would trade my 5th wheel for a boat, but I can't find one with 3 slides.
