Need a strategy session with you guys regarding Dish Network

The camp site up in GA is for all intents and purposes a “fixed” site. We will leave one trailer there full time, and it will be on the same site year after year. The other trailer will go down to an RV resort in FL, and will move from their storage lot to the camp site for six months at a time, then back into storage.

I’m thinking that I could install a regular (permanent) home Dish network satellite dish up in GA, leave the dish antenna in place, take the receivers down to the FL site, get a portable dish antenna and hook the receivers up to that for the six months we’re in FL.

    Will that work?

My father inlaw used to have 7 or 8 receivers. One went to cottage, one to hunt camp, two to Florida and the rest stayed at his house. He had dishes mounted at each place and always brought receivers home as that's where they are registered. He has done it for years with no issues

Ask dish about their “snowbird” plan.

We have a primary house on the west coast of Florida with dish installed.

We bought a second home in a remote area of Florida that we use for vacationing mostly in the winter. Dish installed an antenna and wired that house for free under their snowbird plan. I had them wire connections to the 3 bedrooms and the living room. We bring the Hopper and one Joey receiver with us when we go from house to house.

We also have a Pathway X2 for the Reflection and 2 Wally receivers for it. When we travel with the Reflection I call Dish to activate the Wally’s. They charge $7/mo for each wallly prorated by the day. When we are done traveling we call and disconnect the Wally’s.

If you get a portable antenna for the Florida site make sure that it’s compatible with your receivers then you will not have any problems.

My brother uses a fixed dish in Florida. He doesn't call to change locations. That way he is able to get the local Fox sports channel.

I had dish at the house and a second receiver I used for double duty, house and RV when we traveled. I changed to a cable system to get an internet bundle and changed my dish account to my girlfriend's lot in NW FL on the bayou. That got a different receiver, Wally, that I put in the motorhome while traveling and her 5th wheel at the bayou. The Wally is somewhat problematic in that the remote doesn't have the "set-up" button so when moving it's time consuming to get the dish locked on in a different location . Probably something simple I'm not aware of though.

Jim, I have almost the exact setup between my snowbird home in Ft. Myers Beach and my summer GD home in central New York. Two suggestions: 1. I bought a second dish with the Eastern Arc LNB's from a company called Solid Signal. Their tech support was very helpful and prices compared with Amazon. Some receivers will not work with the small domed portable antennas like a tailgater. My Wally3 is one that won't work with portables, so I bought the same dish unit as the one installed on my Fl home. 2. As others on this forum have found, the GD wiring between the "sat" connector in the storage bay and the TV had voltage on it even with the over the air antenna booster turned off. This voltage blocked the signal from the dish. I just ran a new Quad shielded coax from the dish directly to the receiver. Drilled a hole in the floor behind the fireplace (there are already 2 holes there). The Wally3 has a wireless link to the second TV in the bedroom, so no coax problems there. Hope this helps.
