Towing 2600RB with 2016 Tacoma / with tow package?
We're looking to purchase a 2600RB. I have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma with tow package. I need to decide if this is sufficient or do I need a different tow vehicle. (all weights in pounds)
2600RB empty weight 5725, hitch weight 594. I would imagine we will easily add 1000 pounds of payload to the camper.
The Tacoma, 3.5L, V6, 278hp/265 ftlb torque.
Payload capacity 1620
GAWR 3280
Max Tow rating 6400 (TWR)
GCWR 11,330
The numbers are very close. I'm not concerned driving on flat land but we plan to travel in the mountains part of the time.
If I take the trailer weight 5725 and add 1000lb of stuff I get 6725, which just exceeds the 6400 TWR.
Is anyone towing a 2600RB with a Tacoma with the 3.5L engine that can give me some experiential feedback?
Thanks.

We tend not to believe the advertised dry weight as it has been known to be less than actual , sometimes by a couple hundred pounds or more. If you use the gross trailer weight , which is 7995 , and use 10% of this giving 800# for tongue weight , which this could be more as well. This will give you an approximate tongue weight. If you vehicle hitch can handle the towing weight and the tongue weight , with weight distributing hitch , then you should be fine. With your numbers posted I will guess you will be over both of these weights with the Tocoma.

Welcome to the forum.
I can't help with your specific question as I don't have that truck or trailer. I do want to take this opportunity though to make you aware of a resource in the Reference Library that has an extensive list of tools that will help you determine if your tow vehicle (TV) is up to the task. Here's a link:

Good luck with your decision, and again--welcome!

I can’t tell you yeah or nay but I had a 2010 version of your truck and when my wife picked out a 2285 Lance I that’s long but lighter than the 2600RB, I bolted, I didn’t want anything that long behind my “light weight” Tacoma. We settled on a Diesel Ram and a 303.

Country Campers is right on. Work with the GVWR of the trailer, and assume that is where you will end up. Then take 10-15% of that for tongue weight plus maybe 100 pounds for the hitch and spring bars. I think you will be over both the payload of the truck as well as the tow rating.

Using the trailer GVWR and 10-15% for tongue weight you would be ok on payload if you watch your loading closely. But in this case, your tow rating is very tight where you will have a hard time running below the limit of 6400 lbs. This rating is based on many factors such as your brakes, handling, cooling system, engine and driveline capability and much more. So its important to not exceed these limits. If you can remain under these limits you will be Ok but at some point you will need more truck for this load.

I had a 2016 Tacoma double-cab TRD off-road before my current truck. The payload was 1200 lbs, which severely limited the trailer options after accounting for the weight of the occupants and some nominal cargo. We elected to upgrade the truck which broadened the trailer options considerably.
I would not have been comfortable towing more than a Casita or R-Pod equivalent with the Tacoma. I think you would be much happier with a bigger truck in this case.2017 F-350 CCSB 6.7L

Just curious, what does the payload sticker on YOUR truck say for payload?.....not the "up to 1620 lbs" advertisement stuff.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.
"howson" thanks for the link to : https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...ing-Capability
No matter how many times I run the numbers and no matter how many calculators I use, the 2600RB is too much weight for my 2016 Tacoma Liimited with tow package. It's pretty close on some of the calculations and I'd be comfortable on flatland, but in the hills and mountains it's just not worth the risk. So, I guess I'm hunting for a new truck. Thanks again to all.
