New RV, new truck, now to figure out how it all works

Hello all, and thanks for keeping this place lively.

My wife and children and I are now RV owners after five years of research and "thinking about it". The RV we needed kept growing until it was too much for my half-ton to tow, so I had to get a truck to match. Now I will be spending the next little while catching up on posts here.

I was to take delivery of the RV on 5/6, but after getting the tour it turns out one of the AC units had a short, so they are keeping it until I can get up there next week to try again.

    See you on the forum!

    Hello,

New member too. We bought 21G toy hauler. Plus a Dodge Ram 1500 with tow package. We picked it up today. It seems to sway a bit when doing above 50 MPH. I bought the ez 2 hitch round bar as well. Is the swaying normal or did I buy the wrong truck?

Welcome to the group and you made a great choice by being a site sponsor. Money well spent. Nice job doing your research to pick a tow vehicle capable of handling your camper. The 311BHS is a camper I liked and my young kids liked but it was too much trailer for my truck i felt. Plus I was nervous buying that big of a camper as a first camper. The 28BH had everything we wanted and was shorter, lighter and more cost effective. But my kids still talk about the 311. Welcome again and have fun with the family!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new setup. That 311's floorplan is awesome, and your truck will easily tow it--you're going to really like the combo!

Any questions, fire away. (Don't miss the pre-delivery checklists in the Reference Library. They are handy reminders when you go and check out your new trailer.)

Thanks all for the warm welcome! The information is great, but the community here looks to be pretty awesome too.

Hi Randymac! You may want to go up into the top of the New Member Introductions section and make your own post so that it is not buried in the replies to mine. I have already found a great resource in this forum to figure out trailer/tow vehicle compatibility: https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...ing-Capability

You can use the information there to get the exact capability of your truck, but a quick search shows that even empty that RV might be close to the line on what your truck can safely tow.

Hi Randy. You probably want to start a separate thread to address your issue. The short version is that hitch is most likely causing the sway. I had one originally, and it was a POS. I switched over to a BlueOx and the sway problems went away.
