    Ontario Class G Drivers Licence:

Any automobile, small truck or combination of vehicles that do not weigh or have a registered gross weight of over 11,000 kg (24,250 lbs) provided the towed vehicle does not weigh more than 4,600 kg (10,141 lbs)

Special Note: A pick-up truck towing a 2 axle house trailer by a fifth wheel will be deemed a Class G vehicle provided the combined gross weight is not in excess of 11,000 kg. (24,250 lbs)

In Manitoba, you are required to have a Class 3 license to tow anything with a GVWR of more than 4540 KG. The rule of thumb has always been anything more than 10000 Lbs. With that license you have a written and practical test that is fairly challenging, and you have to have a medical every 5 years if your under 46, every 3 years under 65, and every year if your over 65. My reflection weighs in at 9985 for a reason.

The British Columbia regulations covering trailer towing have been in effect for many years and not a secret. It’s only an issue when the rec vehicle is 10,000 pounds or more. When I bought my trailer the sales manager checked my driver’s lic. and noted that it was a class 1 and qualified me to tow over 10,000 pound trailers. The issue for those of us over 65 is paying for an annual medical to keep the class 1 valid. Most recreation vehicle sales personnel are as likely to advise a person of any licensing requirements as they are explaining pin weights and tow vehicle maximum limits.

In Manitoba you can't even register your trailer unless you have a class 3 if it is over 10,000 lbs.

Sounds to me like dealers and insurance agents need to do a better job on full disclosure.
    Talk to your agents!
Not sure if Im able to due to size, but I will try to upload the actual training booklet for 07 endorsement (BC)

On the ICBC website you can download the study guide "Towing A Recreational Trailer" plus there is a ton of practice exams there. I am currently in the process of upgrading to 07 - have done the written portion and scheduled for the road test on May 27. Note: depending on where you want or need to take the road test there can be a considerable wait time !

Manitoba's Public Insurance Corporation (yes, we are a bunch of socialists, albeit forced) has a good brochure on Trailer Safety that includes some good information, and the rules seem similar regardless of where you live.

Just a standard Class 5 license is all you need in Alberta. From the government website:

A Class 5 licence also allows you to drive all Class 5 motor vehicles, which includes:
    -a 2-axle single motor vehicle
-a motor home without airbrakes unless you hold an air brake certificate
-tow a trailer with one or more axles if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes
-a moped, a recreational vehicle, or any combination of recreational vehicles and a trailer, if the trailer has 2 axles or less, and isn’t equipped with airbrakes

In BC if you have a 1 ton truck it is considered a commercial vehicle and you will find on the bottom of your insurance saying that you must have the correct license if towing.
