2017 F 250 aluminum body dammage
Ever wonder how well the new aluminum body F-250 stand up to damage? I took a tight right turn out of a parking lot down at Gulf Shores State Park and hit a post that was just below eye level. Impact was at the aft edge of the passenger back door and went down the side to the wheel well. The aluminum "tore in several places. Total damage is replacement of the entire passenger rear door, replacement of the right bed outer panel and inner fender well and realignment of the tailgate.

Dang, hate to see that happen. Aluminum does appear to crinkle more. I did something similar with a wooden site marker. Just didn’t see it.

Ouch - That is something that could happen to any of us. I would imagine that a steel bodied truck would result in the same amount of damage as an aluminum one with the same repair methods. Replacing the outer skins is pretty common practice. The days of drilling holes and using a dent puller then "Bondo" are not as common anymore. Good luck with the repairs.

So bummed for you. I bet that was a sick feeling when you heard/felt that impact. I don't think it mattered what the body was made of, it was not going to react well. I can confirm that aluminum panels are more resistant to minor dings. I watched a guy open his door into my brand new 2016 F-150. He smacked it hard enough to leave behind paint. Hit it with a little compound and my buffer when I got home and it looked perfect.
