Advice on Coeur d'Alene to Glacier Nat'l Park

Have a future trip planned, and will be headed to Glacier from Coeur d'Alene. Looking for advice on best route. Someone at Forest Service said to head North out of CDA and approach via Sandpoint and Libby via Hwy 2 to Kalispell. Other route is east on I-90 out of CDA, then north on Hwy 93 past Flathead Lake.

    I'm towing a 35 foot Reflection with about a 13 foot overhead.

    Thanks in advance!

Mike, we did the reverse going from Glacier to CDA via hwy #2 Libby, Bonner's Ferry and South on #95 when we stayed at the Alpine Country RV in Hayden. Assuming you are going in summer and no snow, easy and beautiful roads. Don't know the other route.

I haven't taken the 95/2 route north out of Coeur d' Alene so don't know it. I have driven the I-90, St Regis 135/200/93 route to Kalispell and would tow my Momentum 376 on that route with no worries. Mostly flat and good roads. I would not recommend taking the RV on the Going to the Sun road through Glacier NP.

Lookout pass in on I-90 at the Idaho/Montana line. About 6 miles of 6% grade, it's a long slow climb. At the top of the pass is a world class rails to trails bicycle ride, they have rentals and shuttles, not a hard bike ride, pretty cool.

If you get a chance stop at Haugan, MT and visit the Silver Dollar Saloon and check out boondocking at Savenac Historical Tree Nursery, we spent a summer there volunteering, beautiful place. Silver Dollar has/had 30amp electric, no water or sewer for cheap.

Advice on Coeur d'Alene to Glacier Nat'l Park

We did Glacier last summer. Stayed at Blackwell Island RV Park, then drove to Missoula and stayed a Jim & Mary’s RV Park, replenished supples, then drove to Glacier. All the roads were fine. We stayed for a week in West Glacier and did a long day trip to the Eastside. Going to the Sun wasn’t completely open yet. That was June 10-17th.

    Hello,
I've been this route many times. Easy tow, good road with some steep hills. There is a 23' length limit (IIRC) for Going To The Sun Road.

Last June we came out of Glacier NP south on 93 past Flathead Lake. Nice easy drive towing our 303.
