Black / Gray Discharge pipe
A couple of weeks ago, I had an issue with my black tank valve. I ultimately was able to create enough movement in the 4" pvc pipe by removing the foam insulation from around the pipe (where it passes through the frame/bulkhead) to remove the valve, clean it, lubricate it and put it all back together (SUCCESS).
This got me to thinking, if I reseal the passthrough with foam, and I ever need to work on the tank valves again, i'll have to remove the foam and repeat the process. Legally (or safely), can I add a 4" pvc union to the exiting pvc pipe (in the underbelly side) so that I can seal with foam, and still have the capability to disconnect the waste valves from the PVC discharge?

Hello,
The short answer is certainly! For extra strength I would recommend schedule 80 rather than schedule 40 pipe. Also it would be best to be sure it's PVC to PVC rather than ABS to PVC (like pipe is best). Be sure to use primer. On the internal O ring put a little silicone grease and it will be easier to open and last for years without leaking or hardening.

@VentureRider,
A threaded union is more complex than what you need for an ABS drain connection. Home Depot (or similar) stock rubber sleeves held in place with hose clamps, that work just fine. I divided my drain manifold into three pieces (one for each gate valve) so that I could remove each one individually. See pg 13 of the attachment to post 1 of this thread https://www.mygrandrv.com/fo...968#post171968. BTW, the drain ABS is usually 3", not 4".

Brilliant!
Putting one of these near each tank valve would be a HUGE timesaver.
Thanks (x 100), Rob!

I have used that same coupling in 2 locations thanks to Rob's advice from when he did his gate valve replacement. It is a HUGE time saver!
