It's hard to believe you're on the original oil filter at almost 19K miles. I'd be looking for the filter changed--and a fuel filter change too. Your dealer ought to put your truck on their computer to read out all the sensors, etc. on the OBDII system. Diesels give out a bunch of running information for analysis purposes.
The oil filter has been changed regularly at about every 5K. Air filter also changed. I do need to change the fuel filter.

I'll be calling to make an appointment for a code scan and a fuel filter.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Just curious, does your Ram have an engine exhaust brake (Jake Brake)? If so, when do you use it?

I run the exhaust brake most of the time when towing. It works great I barely have to use the brakes when going down hill. I really find it to be a great feature.
It is all computer controlled so its not super aggressive. It runs off the turbo by varying the vanes in order to slow the vehicle so its no a true Jake Brake.

The only time you would really not want to use it is on slippery road conditions as it slows the wheels down enough it could cause a loss of traction.

Good point on the slippery going. What my dealer service advisor told me about the engine brake was that it makes the temperature higher in the exhaust, tending to burn the crud more than coking the inside of the exhaust cooler. I actually took it all apart at 75K to perform the decarboning process that is recommended, and it did not look bad at all, similar to the inside of a good running gasoline engine exhaust manifold.

I had a 2102 ram 2500 diesel and was getting about 14 around town 16 on highway and towing about 10. Not the greatest. The dpf and EGR on new diesels kill the mileage we all used to get. My 2004 CTD I was getting 28 around town and 20+ towing. Y 38 foot Montana I had at the time.
I now a a 2015 ram 2500 with the 6.4 HeMI and its respectable with the rest. It as the 4.10 gears, around town I get about 15 mpg, and towing my 323 BHS I get 9-10 on level grade.
As with any gas engine when I hit hills it goes right down. I thinks it's an excellent mix though , as far as my everyday vehicle and tow vehicle. I can't complain

I tow our 303 with the 2014 Ram 2500 also the 6.4L HEMI ... two weeks ago averaged 12.4 towing on I 5 in Calif. once on I 80 climbing into the Sierras.... 8.3. Unloaded I've gotten as high as 23.4mpg when the system shuts down to 4 cylinders and you are able to cruise at 67 for a long distance...... like I 5 at 2am and no big rigs to get in your way.....

I pull a 337RLS with a 2013 Ram 6.7 with a six speed automatic 342 gears.90% of my pulling is in flat country And I get from 12 to 14 mpg at 65 mph. Unloaded average 20 mpg We did take a trip to Branson Missouri and averaged 12.2 throughout entire trip. I run 10w40 Rotella and change fuel filter every 30k miles under normal conditions. Sounds like you need to have yours checked out Good Luck

Just wondering if anyone has made aerodynamic mods and what the results were.
Stock tailgate vs U shaped vs netting etc.
Deflector wing at back of cab.
    Partially covering truck bed.
    Open for more ideas.
Unbelievable turbulence in the truck bed.
Getting about 11.5 w/ 2004 F350 6.o diesel pulling 303rls. With fuel prices rising and 8,000 miles per winter every little bit helps.
    Thanks - Bruce

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 4x4 CTD and get between 9 and 12 mpg towing a 303 and 16-17 mpg empty. I am pretty conservative when it comes to the throttle.

The trip was on mainly level with some hills but no passes 200 miles each way 65mph.

On the way out there was a bit of a head/cross wind and the trip computer showed 7.5 mpg average.

The way home 8.3 mpg with not much wind.

    Just a few questions:

What kind of mileage are other folks getting?

    Does a deflector help much?

How about deletes, cold air and a tuner?

I get about 14 to 15mpg unloaded and drive pretty easy.

I got about 1 to 2 mpg better with my 28 ' TT weighing in at about 9000 lbs no aerodynamics to speak of.

    Hospital is everyone else doing?

    Thanks
