    Bearing Wear

FYI, here is a data point for anyone curious about bearing wear. I’m doing a replacement before a long trip this coming summer. The trailer has just short of 20k miles on it, original bearings, original grease, except for what MORRyde may have added/removed when IS was installed. Chinese “Una D” bearings. The scuffing and marks concern me enough to replace them. I’m going back with Timken, so I’ll see how they wear.Click image for larger version.

Smart move. I did the same. I suspect they were over tightened or had too little lube.

20K on the same grease is probably the reason for the scuffing. It may have gotten contaminated during the IS install. Remember to change them out as a matched set. Bearing and cone/race. Also be sure you getting real Timken. Made in USA if possible. The Timken on Amazon are made in China and might not be genuine.

I also use Lucas red and Tacky bearing grease.

Summit Racing has US stock as well as some other places. Call and check before you order. The other place that stocks Timken (also does full service and repair) is Iron Bear Trailer located near Denver CO.

    Safe travels
