Well if it was me, I'd pull the hubs and check anyway. It's highly unlikely that reps at GD are going to tell potential customers that they have a problem with leaking seals.

To paraphrase what I read on GD Facebook page, posted by Emily Stahley of Lippert. Grease and seals are OK, problem is that the production process fills or overfills the hub. Grease expands when heated by travel, pushes by seal. Production process to be modified in November. She has been helping people who have experienced this issue.

Wow. So they know what the problem is but will continue to manufacture defective and dangerous axles for a few more months until they get around to correcting the problem? Yikes! Sounds like there is no safety oversight for the RV Industry.

Dennis, I totally agree! I am very disheartened by that time frame too! But she is the only one in either GDRV or Lippert who has stated an explanation that places the responsibility for the problem squarely on an organization, and also is personally active in working with those who are affected! This is not to minimize the great help that GDRV has given many.

I asked Gary Bunzer (Dr. RV) at the rally what LCI was doing to correct this greasy brake safety issue if anything. He said he would respond via email when he got an answer. He was there representing LCI. We will see what he says.

Interesting. If production change is in November, makes me wonder if that is part of LCI's ability to extend their axle warranty? Press Release

    Tom

I think it has everything to do with the fact that Dexter Axle, a few days prior to Lippert's big announcement, had increased their warranty period as well. Not wanting to lose market share to a competitor, Lippert was probably forced to match the new Dexter warranty.

My mobile RV Repair guy is coming over on Tuesday to do my bearings and check brakes. I'll know then. I used to do that stuff myself, but age and mobility issues are sneaking up on me.
