Planning for Next Year's Total Solar Eclipse

I posted this same information on the FB page, but thought I'd share it here also.

Are any of you planning vacations around next years total eclipse of the sun? It will be on Monday, August 21st 2017. The last total eclipse that was visible from Canada or the lower 48 was in 1979. Here is a nice tool from NASA that will let you know the areas of totality along with the expected duration. You can enlarge the map, and click on a spot to see what time the eclipse will start and what the duration will be. The duration will be from 2 to 2-1/2 minutes across much of the U.S. that is in the path of the eclipse.

If you want to watch it from an RV park that is along the path of the eclipse, you might want to make your reservations early because they will likely fill up early on. And if you're going to travel to it, I'd look for areas that are usually cloud free. If we have a rally next August, we might be able to tackle both with one trip.

It looks like the eclipse will be about an hour north of my house. I usually have to drive at least a day or two to see anything interesting (that I haven't already seen multiple times previously) so it will be nice to have this viewable from my "backyard".

We used to tent camp there a lot for water ski trips back in the 80's and 90's. I've never stayed there in an RV and don't recall what the RV spaces look like so I can't really offer much in the way of a review. Sorry :-(

We took the free tour at Deschutes Brewery in Bend last June. It was amazing, and they give you four pretty good free samples of your choice. Although I didn't get to tour the brewery, the IPA from Sisters Oregon was top notch. My nephew lives in Madras which is North of Bend. It might be a good place to set up camp for the eclipse.

If I had property here, I'd let you guys stay at my place. But as it is, I can only park my RV in my own driveway for 48 hours where I live :-( Madras would be a great location to camp and watch the eclipse!

So Jim posted this 9 months ago, anyone planning to be in the path to view the Total Eclipse? We will be in Wyoming with Jim and Ginnie and really looking forward to this historical event!

We will be at Mundo Hot Springs in Idaho. We are driving out from NH for the eclipse, then going to Oregon and Washington state and finally the Nor Cal rally before heading home. The trip started out planning for the eclipse. Hoping for great weather!
