Water softener
I'm considering a water softener. Any recommendations for water softeners? On average, how often do you have to regenerate the softener when full timing?

I've had an On-The-Go softener for about 10 years and like it. I get about 2 to 3 months before I have to regen. It all depends on how much water you use and how hard the water source is. Literature from the company says that it will soften water for 20 days, but talking to the company, they said it really could go longer (probably a legal safety statement). It takes a single 1lb box of salt and about 15 minutes to recharge mine - it is an 8000 grain unit.

We bought this unit a couple weeks ago:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
From the research I did, there are two manufacturers and units from both are pretty much the same. The smaller units are 8-10,000 grains. The larger unit is 16,000. The only difference (other than physical size) is the length of time between regens. Intervals between regens depend on how much water you use and how hard the water is. Based on my experience so far (with both the larger unit I recently bought and the smaller unit I borrowed for 2 weeks), I'm thinking I'll be able to go a month between regens with my larger unit.
We're really happy with ours. It dropped our hardness from around 250 to 10.Brian & Kellie

The 16,000 grain unit is the one I bought. I am nearing 3 weeks and still doing well. I have sslt at the ready but not yet needed. What a huge difference in water quality! The smaller and bigger units differ mainy indiameter. Not that huge a difference. They are not "mini" in size. Seems pretty solid.

I have the 16,000 grain unit and just checked the water hardness yesterday after 6 weeks of use and it's still at the bottom of the hardness scale. Very impressed so far!

I’ve had mine (that model) for almost a year, still solid as a rock. Regen about once a month with the very hard water I have here. It takes some time to pour in the 2 containers of salt, much slower than you would think. I let the salt sit in there for a while too, maybe 15 minutes. Then it takes about 30 min to flush out. After that set for a month.
