Why is he "controversial"? For a "fair" fact-checking site, that seems like a very biased, opinionated statement about the corporate owner.
Looks like you availed yourself of cut-n-paste from a couple of sources to quote directly, and therefore supplied your own answer to your question. If you click on the word "controversial" either in your reply above, or in the original Snopes article, it will direct you to a second article about Marcus, where in that instance he was cast in a less than favorable light on the other end of the political spectrum. Hence, "controversial".
