    generators in parallel

I tried searching for an answer, but didn't find it. I'm a novice when it comes to electronics. I know for many generators you can run the same brand in parallel. But can you run different brands together? And if yes, different wattages?

The biggest difference would be physical connectors. I ended up purchasing two Champion 2800/3100 inverters. While researching it, I looked at the Harbor Freight Predator inverter, but it didn't have a 50A parallel kit. I looked at Champion's 50A parallel kit, and with the exception of the physical plugs it looked like it would work. However, since I didn't want to run the risk of a fire or other problem, I simply ponied up the additional money and bought the Champions.

Honda makes a parallel kit. Don't remember if they have the 50 amp connector. We went with the Onan 5500 mounted in the front storage space and a transfer switch. Runs off propane

Yamaha makes one too. I Have a 2000 watt now, and I'm more interested in the capabilities/limitations of adding a second one in as cost effective a way as possible. The Onan is way too pricey for me.

I had two 2K watt Champion generators that I used in parallel. They worked fine but were a PITA. It takes twice as long to set up, takes up nearly twice as much space in the RV and uses much more fuel than a single larger generator....plus now you are filling two generators instead of just one. I ended up getting a 3500 watt champion with remote start. It runs everything I was running with the two 2K watt gens, including the AC, takes up 1/2 the space and I can start it from inside the trailer when I need it. Much better set-up IMHO.

Have not priced 2 generators vs the Onan. Had a 4kw Onan in last 2 5vers as they had only 1 a/c. New unit has 2 a/c so went with the 5500. Total price of installing, transfer switch, remote start and propane carb was about $5k. For me the price was ok. But it all depends on what works for you. One recommendation with onboard generators is to buy the genturi exhaust stack. Takes exhaust up to the top of the unit. Never had the CO2 go off using the genturi

The paralleled honda 2000's have a 30 amp connection. When I got them u had to purchase the parallel kit separate but now they make a companion 2000 watt that has the 30 amp plug on it. For the amount of boondocking I do it works fine for me and if I don't need ac I just run one Genny. I also have an extended run tank that hooks up to both gennies

John - do you have a link or part number for extended run tank that connects to the Champion 2000 watt generators?

    Thanks,
