So, a few people have had to cancel plans to come to Quartzsite and everyone on the waitlist has been given a chance to take those slots. That means there is an opportunity for a few more people to come. If you are want to sign up please go to the Eventbrite site, click "Tickets" and then click "Join the Waitlist" to sign up. I check several times a day, and will release the email for you to "order" a ticket as soon as I see it. You'll need the last 8 digits of your VIN to sign up. This will probably be the last chance for folks to sign up.

Have you set the limit at 200 rigs? Just curious.

The shutdown will not affect the rally. From the Department of the Interior website:

Campgrounds and Other Recreation Sites Campgrounds, boat ramps, and other recreation sites will be open. However, many facilities will be operationally shut down and posted accordingly, restrooms locked, and water systems shut down. Consistent with other Federal recreation providers, occupied sites would be given 48 hours’ notice that services including water, electricity, and restrooms will be turned off and closed. Operational shutdown activities for the sites would be completed within the 48-hour period. Visitors may remain at these sites at their sole risk.

Yes. We had to lock in several things like the caterer. Initially we had set it at 150 thinking we'd never get there, but scrambled around to change it to 200. The desert has plenty of capacity, but the organized stuff needs a little planning.

Government Shutdown: From the Department of the Interior website...Campgrounds and Other Recreation Sites Campgrounds, boat ramps, and other recreation sites will be open. However, many facilities will be operationally shut down and posted accordingly, restrooms locked, and water systems shut down. Consistent with other Federal recreation providers, occupied sites would be given 48 hours’ notice that services including water, electricity, and restrooms will be turned off and closed. Tables and chairs: If you can bring a 6 or 8 foot table that we can use during the pot luck it would be helpful. We don't have a "facility", so it's bring your own chair for seminars and meals.
Vendors: We'll have some vendors on site (Blue Sky Energy, Dragonfly Energy, Performance Trailer Braking, Paul Evert RV, Skymed, Morryde) and some others that will be providing some door prizes or other sponsorship. Let them know you appreciate their help in putting this together.
Things to do: There is a lot going on in and around Quartzsite at this time of year: Take a look at these websites for ideas.
    http://www.quartzsitecalendar.com/
    https://www.desertusa.com/cities/az/quartzsite.html
T-Shirts: A variety of shirts customized for this event are available on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/…/…/grand-desig...te-2019-rally…
Food: The pot-luck will be on Friday at 4:00. Corn dogs on Saturday 2:00 to 6:00. Catered meal on Sunday about 1:00. Since we'll have a lot of people (over 300) we'll try and arrange it so not everyone has to get in line at once. Please bring your patience with you as we only have limited facilities for setup. For the pot luck please try to follow the plan of using your last name to determine what type of dish to bring (the foodie police will NOT be checking). Aim to feed about 8 people.
A-F Main Dish (hot or cold)
G-L Side Dish (hot or cold)
    M-R Dessert
S-Z Salad (pasta, fruit, green etc)
Techs: Grand Design is sending four techs to the rally. They are there to do recalls (that's why we asked for your VIN), emergency issues (my jacks/slides won't work), and safety issues (my brakes stopped working). If you have issues check in with our GD hosts Jim and Kerry Hudson who will be doing triage for the techs. Please don't seek out the techs as it will only slow them down and they don't keep the list of work.
Firewood: Try to bring a couple of bundles of firewood. No firewood, no bonfire. Lots of firewood, bonfires each night.
Parking: We'll be trying to have quiet sections and less quiet sections. When you arrive you will be asked if you need handicap parking and if you are going to be mostly solar or mostly generator. You will then be handed a piece of paper and directed to an appropriate parking area where someone will help you find a spot (look for the orange vests). Once you have your spot, write the number from the orange cone on the paper along with your name and return it to the registration desk to get your registration packet.
Directions: The site of the rally is on public (Bureau of Land Management) land. We'll be in the Road Runner free camping area south of Quartzsite, AZ. Follow I-10 to Quartzsite then follow the signs to Hwy 95 South. Take 95 South to milepost 99 then turn right (right turn lane) onto La Paz Vally Road (aka 53rd Ave). Take an immediate right at the Road Runner sign and get your (free) permit from the BLM host - a tent about 50 yds north of the sign. Then follow the attached map - and the signs. If you get lost call me at 406-320-1368 or call K7KAR frequency at 146.550 simplex we'll send out a search party.
Schedule: The schedule will be in a state of flux until the last minute. The current best estimate is:
    Friday Jan 11:
12:00 - 12:30 Rally Starts Welcome and Orientation
12:30 - 2:00 Gale Scholten and Jim Hinkle on Solar Installations

Go back to post #140 . It has all the links. Long links don't copy and paste so well.

    Re: Govt Shutdown-

Keith Regli, this may impact operations for us. La Posa South is a BLM facility. Many of our rally attendees dump, fill their water, and toss their trash there. In addition, many people in La Posa South will still be able to camp there, but will not be able to use the facilities. I envision this will create a huge demand and long lines at any private facilities that are open. So folks need to plan accordingly.

Wow. Well that sucks. So all the people that paid $180 for LTVA are just getting screwed.
This will definitely affect the lines at all the local dump stations.
We might have to change our plans and not go back to Quartzite in January.
