Not to belabor the point but I went on that site for edification and I found on the home page three Nissan ads, on the mobile site a huge Tums ad displayed under the section header. Maybe you are so accustomed to ads besieging web pages you just overlook them. I have been an owner for just under a year and took the trial member route prior to that and became a site sponsor very shortly thereafter. Chris I have always been impressed with your site, the management that I have witnessed and find the $12 per year to be a moot point, it is exponentially worth more than that fee. Thanks for all your commitment and dedication to this site.

If I understand the results for Q9 correctly, the "free site in one way or the other" responses outvoted the "great value at $10 or $12 / per month" (seems that different folks pay different amounts) by 55.98 % to 44.02 % .

The $ 12 is per YEAR, not month. Three low priced Starbucks. If you love learning and solving problems in an organized and good hearted fashion, it is priceless, we believe.

Hmm....just logged onto IRV2 and my logon sees ads.
I support Chris to keep the site ad free and IMHO if a provider creates something that brings value to me personally, I will support their efforts. It's a good faith gesture on my part to keep content and improvements going forward. The fact that Chris reaches out to members for input on improvements is a great testament to what this forum provides.
The nice part of this forum is the choice is mine. I liken it to credit unions and co-ops. I am a member from my own choosing to support the organization.Barb, Lyle and the 3 four-legged kids

Great discussion, as always. The reality is that all of the bigger forums are in business to make money. I have become "friends" with the owner of iRV2, Forest River Forums, and many others. He's a very nice guy, and we talk occasionally about the state of forums and what our futures look like. He's getting to be a big operation now, and I am really happy to see that. He has a lot of great ideas. We do too. The companies that run a conglomeration of sites do so to make money. Whether they charge you directly or not, they are making money. Look at your favorite forums and see who owns them.
I believe there is a balance between free and paid. I believe that I am close to figuring out that balance, and it is due to input from a couple of sources. One of which is a fellow forum owner who is also on our forum. One of the big reasons that I have stayed with a pay site is that it filters out the riff raff. Please don't misunderstand, not everyone is riff raff, but someone who is just looking to come on to the site to badmouth or cause trouble usually wouldn't fork out $12 to have full privileges. I don't want that to change, and am evaluating ways that we can keep those folks from becoming a nuisance.
I'll keep you guys posted.
Thanks
